Sycamores Defeat EIU in Defensive Battle

Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State defeated the Eastern Illinois Panthers in an exciting two to zero victory.

The Sycamores fought with the Panthers in a physical battle for the full 90 minutes. Eastern Illinois tallied seven fouls while Indiana State added four more to the match.

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net for the majority of the game. The Sycamores had a total of ten shots with only three on goal. EIU tallied only five shots with none on goal.

In the 88th minute of this strong defensive battle ISU put their first goal in the back of the net. Sophomore Katie Wells followed a shot from freshman Caitlin Glascott. Glascott's shot was saved by the EIU keeper but deflected into the box where Wells put it away for a goal. Not even a minute later freshman Pam Silies added the second goal for the Sycamores. Silies intercepted a misplay from EIU at midfield and took the ball for a one on one breakaway where she found the back of the net.

Indiana State now has three shutouts so far this season. The Sycamore defense has continually been a strong force against opponents.

ISU returns to action on Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Indianapolis to face off with Butler.
