Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State women's soccer will travel to Ohio to take on Kent State and Toledo.

The Sycamores currently hold a 4-5 record and are ranked fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. ISU is led by Katie Wells who is the leading point scorer with 10 and tied for leading goal scorer at three.

Defensively Indiana State has earned four shutouts. Brittany San Roman has played an integral part in goal for the Sycamores. San Roman has made 41 saves giving her a .788 save percentage so far this season. Sophomore Katie Sullivan and junior Kasey Wallace have also been powerhouses on the backline. The two center backs have limited opponents to 52 shots on goal in eight games played. Sullivan has also gotten involved in the offensive end of play tallying two assists and four shots.

Indiana State fell to Kent State by a score two to one on Sept. 16. Kent State scored two goals in the first half one off of a header and another off of a breakaway. The Sycamores got on the board late in the game when Maddie Orf sent a long cross to Katie Wells who passed the ball into the net past the Kent State goalkeeper.  

The Sycamores will now travel to Toledo, Ohio on Sept. 18 to face off with the Rockets at 1:00 p.m. Toledo holds a 4-3 record and is on a winning streak of three games.

Shutout Masters

Indiana State has now earned four shutouts this season. The Sycamores earned their third shutout and first road win on Sept. 4 against Eastern Illinois. Sophomore Katie Wells put ISU on the board in the 88th minute off of a rebound. Freshman Pam Silies added an assurance goal in the 89th minute off of an EIU misplay that she took as a breakaway to goal. ISU added their fourth on Sept. 11 with a plethora of Sycamores scoring goals in the seven to zero win over Chicago State. Freshman Lindsey Anstine had two goals with Casidy Simonis, Maddie Schaak, Caitlin Glascott, Maddie Orf and Julia Kist each adding one a piece. Katie Wells has three assists. Goalkeeper Brittany San Roman made five saves.

Wonderful Wells

Sophomore Katie Wells has had an impressive season so far in 2016. Wells is tied for leading point scorer with eight where she has racked up a team high of four assists. Wells has also tallied two goals of her own. Three of these assists came against Chicago State on Sept. 11. Her first came in the 25th minute where she ripped a shot from the top of the 18 yard box and junior Casidy Simonis finished the rebound. In the 33rd minute wells took the ball up the right flank beating a CSU defender to cross the ball into the box where she found senior Maddie Schaak who put it in the back of the net for a goal. Wells last assist was a corner kick to senior Maddie Orf in the 61st minute of play. Wells is now the leading point scorer with 10 and is tied for leading goal scorer at three.

Rising Stars

Freshman Lindsey Anstine scored her first career goals for the Sycamores against Chicago State on Sept. 11. Anstine tallied two goals in the match. Her first came in the 78th minute when Julie Kist dropped a ball back to her and Anstine shot from the left side of the 18 yard box to put the ball in the far side netting. Not even a minute later Anstine headed a ball into the net off a long cross from Kayla Trinka. Freshman Caitlin Glascott has also been having an impressive first season. Glascott has accumulated five points with three assists and one goal.

Marvelous Maddie

Senior Maddie Orf was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All Preseason Team. Orf was the only Sycamore selected to the squad this year. Orf earned MVC Second Team All-Conference honors after the 2015 season where she tallied six goals and three assists. Orf also took a team high of 50 shots in 2015.

Fresh Faces

Indiana State has 13 newcomers to the 2016 squad.  A group of 13 freshman look to make a major impact on Sycamore Soccer this season. Lindsey Anstine, Kathryn Besserman, Carli Chiatto, Jordan Denton, Caitlin Glascott, Adrianna Henry, Natalie Kesselring, Brianna Riscossa, Jazlyn Rowan, Katie Sidloski, Pam Silies, Hannah Sullivan, and Kayla Trinka will be starting their first season as collegiate athletes.
