Stejbach Scores Twice in Season Opener

Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks three to zero in the season and home opener on Aug. 19 at Memorial Stadium. This gives the Sycamores a 1-0 record to start the 2016 season. ISU is now 7-0 in the all-time series with the Leathernecks.

Senior Gaelen Stejbach led the offense with two goals in the match while sophomore Katie Wells added another. The first goal came in the tenth minute. Senior Maddie Schaak took it to the end line and nailed a cross to the back post where Wells put it away.

In the 25th minute Indiana State put another one on the board when senior Maddie Orf beat a Western Illinois defender and made a pass to Stejbach who shot from 30 yards out and put the ball just over the keeper's hands.

The third and final goal of the night came in the 80th minute of play when freshman Caitlin Glascott sent the ball into the box from 40 yards out where Stejbach passed it into the net to notch her second goal of the game.

ISU's defense also earned their first shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Brittany San Roman had four saves in the game.

The Sycamores hit the road to take on Louisville on Aug. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
