Sycamores Down Quincy In Women's Basketball Exhibition

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State Sycamores overcame a hot start by visiting Quincy and shot well over 50 percent from the field after halftime en route to a 69-55 exhibition victory over the Hawks in front of 1,378 fans inside Hulman Center.

Tierra Webb led the way with 14 points as she hit 6-of-10 shots from the field and added four rebounds with two assists and a pair of steals. Wendi Bibbins went 6-of-9 from the field and added 13 points with six boards, two assists and one steal. ISU hit just 6-of-17 shots (35.3%) in the first quarter as they trailed 19-17, but came back to hit 22-of-40 the rest of the way as they connected on 49.1 percent of their shots in the contest.

Conversely, Quincy hit 7-of-14 in the first period, including a mark of 5-of-9 from 3-point range but were limited to just 16-of-47 for the game (34%). Indiana State shared the ball well in the entire contest as they posted 16 assists on 28 made field goals. Quincy held a narrow 33-32 margin on the boards.

Diamonisha Sophus hit two free throws less than one minute into the game for the quick 2-0 ISU lead. Megan Wienstroer connected on the first of her three first quarter 3-pointers on the ensuing possession but Webb countered with a jumper for the 4-3 lead. A 5-0 run by Quincy staked the Hawks to a 13-6 lead, but ISU scored five of their own in a row, including a conventional 3-point play with 2:47 on the clock to trim the lead down to 13-11. McKenzy Telfair hit a 3-pointer just before the buzzer, but Quincy led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter.

A jumper by Quincy's Cha Cha Williams gave them a 24-21 lead in the second quarter, but ISU went on a 7-0 Sycamore run was started by an Ashli O'neal lay-up and ended on a Rhagen Smith 3-pointer at the 4:16 mark for the 28-24 advantage. A free throw by Quincy's Alexa Low trimmed the Sycamores' halftime lead down to 30-28.

Indiana State began the second half with a 6-0 run which was capped by a lay-up from Regan Wentland for a 36-38 lead just two minutes into the period. Quincy would go on to score 10 points in a row as the Sycamores went scoreless over the next six minutes as they took a 40-38 lead with 1:49 on the clock. Maryam Wilcher hit 1-of-2 free throws to trim the lead down to 40-39. Bibbins connecting on a lay-up with 42 seconds remaining as the Sycamores led 44-42 at the end of the third quarter.

A lay-up by Webb with 9:19 on the clock gave ISU a 47-42 lead. The Sycamores then went on a game changing 12-0 run which including eight fast brak points and was capped by a steal and lay-up from Webb with 5:24 remaining for the 59-45 lead. Quincy would get within nine points in the final four minutes, but ISU pulled away again late for the 69-55 victory.

Megan Wienstroer led the way for Quincy with 17 points.

Indiana State opens the regular season at home when they host Northern Kentucky on Friday, November 11 inside Hulman Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
