TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sycamore Soccer defeated the Butler Bulldogs 3-2 on Bark in the Park night Thursday evening at Memorial Stadium. ISU improves to 2-3 on the year, while Butler falls to 3-1-1. It's Indiana State's first victory over Butler since 2010.
Sydney Lovelace registered five offensive points in the 3-2 victory. She is now fourth all-time in total offensive points, registering 40 so far in her career. Lovelace is also now fifth all-time with 14 goals scored in her career. It was her third career multi-goal match.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 26th minute. Gabrielle Lemkuil played a ball to Randi DeLong who then crossed it in front of the ISU goal. Serina Kashimoto was on the receiving end where she was able to beat the keeper to the top right corner to give Butler the early lead.
Lovelace was able to tie the game up in the 60th minute. Sophomore Kasey Wallace played a ball forward where Lovelace was able to gain possession and hit a shot from 18 yards out to beat the Butler keeper and knot the match up at 1-1.
Lovelace put the Sycamores ahead in the 67th minute after she played a ball to Kate Johnson who played it back. With the keeper attempting to get the pass before it reached Lovelace, she was able to touch the ball just past the keeper and it dribbled to the right post to give ISU the 2-1 lead.
Butler tied the match up in the 85th minute. Kashimoto played a ball in from the left side of the box where she found Halle Stelbasky eight yards in front of the net and she was able to connect on a header past the Sycamore keeper.
Indiana State scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute of action. Lovelace received a pass from Maddie Orf on the right side of the box. Lovelace played the ball back to Orf who took the shot that hit off the bottom half of the cross bar and went through the goal line for the game-winning goal.
Brittany San Roman played all 90 minutes in goal, recording eight saves. San Roman had her work cut out for her as she faced 29 shots in the match, 17 in the second half. She made two diving stops in the second half to help secure the Sycamore victory.
Offensively, ISU was led by Lovelace who netted two goals and assisted the game-winner. Lovelace tallied four shots in the contest. Orf finished with three shots, two on goal, and the game-winning goal. Johnson also finished with an assist. Maddie Schaak, Gaelen Stejbach and Ashley Gibbons each registered one shot.
