HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Indiana State sophomore Marissa Uradomo fired a round of 75 on the opening day of the Low Country Intercollegiate as she and the team are within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard. The event is being played at the Moss Creek Golf Club, which is a par-72, 5,992-yard layout.
Uradomo's 75 is currently tied for second-best in the tournament field, trailing only Princeton's Jordan Lippetz, who carded a 73. As a team, the Sycamores posted a round of 315, which is tied for fifth in the 15 team field. They are just six strokes off the lead as Princeton and host Wofford are tied for first after an opening day score of 309.
"Gina Della Camera birdied the last two holes and Erinn Sutton made an unbelievable up and down on No. 18 to give us a great chance tomorrow," head coach Greg Towne said. "The team had to adjust to playing Bermuda greens but started to get the hang of it by the back nine. Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow so we are looking forward to the challenge."
Della Camera's two birdies to top off the round gave her a 79 which is tied for 20th place. Sutton's great save on the final hole put her at 80 for the day and she is in a tie for 26th. Amanda Smith is right behind the rest of the Sycamore pack with an 81 and is in a tie for 31st while Andrea Frankiewicz's 91 is tied for 71st.
The Sycamores trail Princeton and Wofford by six strokes (309) while High Point's 311 is good enough for third. Savannah State posted a round of 313 and sit in fourth while Indiana State and Bethune-Cookman are tied for fifth with rounds of 315. Indiana State is two strokes ahead of Appalachian State who are seventh with a score of 317.
Indiana State and the rest of the field will wrap up the Low Country Intercollegiate tomorrow (Sunday) with tee times scheduled throughout the morning.
