DES MOINES, Iowa – A pair of first half goals by the Drake Bulldogs proved to be too much for Indiana State soccer on Friday night at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. Kate Johnson scored her 13th career goal, and second of the season in the match. The Sycamores fall to 4-7 overall, and 0-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Drake improves to 5-7 overall, and 2-0 in the Valley.
The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the match in the seventh minute. Hannah Wilder took a shot from the right side of the box and the ISU's keeper deflected it to the left side where Rebecca Rodgers was there for the finish.
ISU tied the match up in the 24th minute. Sydney Loesing took the ball up the right side of the pitch and played it back to the middle for Johnson. Johnson was able to corral the pass five yards in front of the net and put it past the keeper to knot the match up.
Drake regained the lead in the 36th minute. A corner kick was played in and Drake's Sarah Nicholson was able to get a header attempt that was saved by the Sycamore keeper. The Sycamore defense was unable to clear it and another header attempt from Brooke Salisbury was just out of the keeper's reach to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Neither team could find the netting in the final 45 minutes, with the Sycamores and Bulldogs each hitting eight shots in the period.
