TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sycamore Soccer suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Evansville Purple Aces on Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium on Domestic Violence Awareness night. Indiana State falls to 5-9, and 0-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Evansville improves to 3-9-2, and 1-2-1 in the Valley.
Offensively, Indiana State was held to 11 shots in the contest. Maddie Orf registered a team-leading five shots, while Brice Bement and Sydney Loesing each added a pair. Maggie Richard and Maddie Schaak also tallied a shot a piece.
Defensively, ISU surrendered only three shots on frame, and Brittany San Roman earned two saves in the match.
The match proved to be physical as the Sycamores and Aces combined for 24 fouls. Indiana State drew three yellow cards during the competition. Injuries played a big role in the match, as four Sycamore starters went down due to an injury.
The Purple Aces broke open the scoreless tie in the 65th minute. Evansville earned a corner kick that was played in by Kayla Smith. Olivia Shafer then attempted a header to the far post and it was redirected by Colleen Dierkes to give the Purple Aces the 1-0 lead.
The Sycamores return to action on Sunday, Oct. 18th as they travel to Northern Iowa to take on the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Falls Soccer Complex in Cedar Falls.
