TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State volleyball team will continue its nine game road swing as it travels to Indianapolis for a mid-week match up with IUPUI on Tuesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. and live video (pay) will be available through IUPUIJags.com.
Indiana State (5-2) is coming off a 1-2 weekend finish at the Robert Morris/Duquesne Invitational with sophomore outside hitter Bree Spangler leading the way with three double-doubles. She combined for 36 kills and 48 digs on the weekend to help ISU open up the season 5-0 for the first time since 1989.
Freshman libero Stephanie Bindernagel also turned in impressive performances, recording double-digit digs in all three matches with a career-high 24 against Robert Morris.
Junior middle blocker Cassandra Willis also notched double-digit kills in two of three games of the weekend while recording a team-best .571 hitting percentage against Duquesne where she laid down 10 kills.
Freshman defensive specialist Danielle Waedekin leads the team with 10 aces through seven matches this season while junior setter Erika Nord has recorded 10.3 assists per game (259 total).
As a team, ISU is hitting .271 and averaging 15.04 digs per match. The Sycamores' defense allows opponents to hit just .152 over seven games.
The Jags (2-5) are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Golden Dome Invitational at Notre Dame where they defeated the host Fighting Irish but dropped matches to Western Michigan and Washington State.
They are led by junior outside hitter Kelly Wachtel with 70 kills (2.9 per game) and a .270 hitting percentage. As a team, IUPUI is hitting just .179 and averages 1.9 blocks per game. Senior libero Beth Howard leads with 113 digs while setter Alexis Mapes averages 6.7 assists per game.
ISU continues tournament play on Friday through Sunday at the SIUE Invitational facing Southern Utah on Friday at 2 p.m. ET, Arkansas Pine-Bluff at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday and host Cougars on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
