INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Butler University on Thursday night in front of 267 fans at the Butler Bowl. ISU falls to 1-4-2 on the season while Butler is now 3-4.
In goal, Brittany San Roman played another full match, earning ten saves improving her season total to 60. She earned 66 total saves in 2013. Jayne Heinrich played all 90 minutes in net for Butler recording two saves.
Offensively, ISU was led by Emily Chura with three shots and one being on goal. Sophia Maccagnone led the way for the Bulldogs, recording five shots and the Bulldogs goal. Bren Pawelkowski and Paige Johnson each recorded an assist on the goal.
After a match where the Sycamores allowed nine goals, they were able to shut out Butler in the first half surrendering ten shots, four of which were on goal. ISU ripped three shots during the first period with one being on goal. Butler finished with 21 shots total, with eleven being on goal. ISU had just six shots, with two on goal.
Butler scored in the 74th minute when Maccagnone beat San Roman to the far post. She was assisted by Pawelkowski and Johnson on the play.
ISU returns to action on Sunday, September 14th for their first match at Memorial Stadium in the 2014 season. Tickets will be just $2 and fans are encouraged to bring canned food items to benefit the Catholic Charities of Terre Haute Foodbank. Non-perishables, canned goods and boxed goods are welcome. No glass containers please.
