BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Indiana State battled back from an early deficit but Western Kentucky came back with a late goal to slip past the Sycamores 2-1 in women's soccer action in front of 146 fans on an overcast afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex today (Sept. 1).

Indiana State fell to 1-2-0 on the season while Western Kentucky improved to 1-1-1.

Western Kentucky scored first in the match on a Haley Baldridge goal in the 18th minute to stake the Lady Toppers to a 1-0 lead.

Kate Johnson scored her second goal of the season in the 39th minute as he shot off the assist from Kylie Sumner bounced off the high post and then down into the goal to equalize the match at 1-1.

The Sycamore defense stood tall until the 73rd minute when Lauren Moats scored to give the Lady Toppers a 2-1 advantage that they would not relinquish. WKU found Moats in traffic off a corner kick for the game-winning goal.

The Lady Toppers owned a 24-12 lead in shots as well as an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Western Kentucky had 12 shots in each half, while the Sycamores were limited to just three shots in the second half. 

It was a busy afternoon for freshman Brittany San Roman in goal as she posted six saves in the match, including five in the second half.

Johnson had a team-leading three shots in the match, including her goal in the first half. 

Indiana State returns home on Friday, September 6 when they host Green Bay inside Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
