TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State earned a 3-0 victory over Bowling Green in its second and final preseason friendly in front of 384 fans inside Memorial Stadium on a beautiful afternoon.
The Sycamores held a 26-7 edge in shots, including a mark of 14-2 in shots on goal.
Maddie Orf struck first for the Sycamores at the 18:52 mark of the first half scoring off a perfect pass from Kayla Welch on a free kick following a Bowling Green penalty. Orf beat the Falcon defense on the right hand side and placed the ball inside the left back corner of the goal to give ISU a quick 1-0 advantage.
At the 28:43 mark of the first half, Abby Reed put a ball in goal for the Sycamores off another perfect feed from Welch off a free kick. Reed, a freshman, has now scored three goals for the Sycamores in the two friendlies. Her goal gave the Sycamores a 2-0 lead which stood up through halftime.
ISU scored its third goal at the 84:17 mark in the second half off a penalty kick from Kate Johnson. The penalty kick was set up after a strong Sycamore attack forced Bowling Green to foul in front of the net.
The Sycamores recorded 13 shots in each half, owning a 13-2 advantage in the opening half and were up 13-5 in shots after halftime. Sydney Lovelace and Kate Johnson each had five shots to lead the way for ISU, including three on goal each. Sydney Loesing and Emily Chura each also had a pair of shots of goal for the Sycamores.
The ISU defense limited Bowling Green to just seven shots, including only two on goal. Brittany San Roman played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Sycamores with a pair of saves while Abby Keller kept a clean sheet in the second half.
Indiana State returns to action on Friday, August 23 when they host Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m. (ET) in the regular season opener for both teams.
