SETTING THE STAGE
Indiana State continues year three of the Greg Lansing era on Saturday, March 9 when the Sycamores (18-13, 9-9 MVC) move on to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinals against Creighton (25-7, 13-5 MVC) inside the Scottrade Center. Tip-off is set for 2:35 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast live on the Missouri Valley Conference Television Network as well as on ESPN3 with John Rooney (pbp) and Mark Adams (analyst) on the call. The game can also be heard on the radio via WIBQ 98.5 FM and along the Nelligan Sports Marketing Radio Network with Brian Fritz (pbp) and Matt Renn (analyst) on the call. THE CREIGHTON SERIES
Creighton owns a 52-25 edge in the all-time series over Indiana State, including a 4-1 mark on a neutral court. The two teams split the season series with the Bluejays earning a 79-66 victory in Omaha on Jan. 5 and the Sycamores taking down Creighton 76-57 on February 6 inside Hulman Center. The win on Feb. 6 snapped a four-game losing skid the Bluejays. Indiana State's lone victory over Creighton on a neutral court came in 2001 when the No. 5 Sycamores downed No. 1 Creighton in St. Louis en route to an ISU MVC Tournament Championship. In MVC Tournament action, ISU is 1-6 versus Creighton.

The Indiana State Head Coach
Indiana State head coach Greg Lansing (South Dakota, 1990) is 56-42 (.571) overall in his third season as a head coach. He is 29-25 all-time in MVC games, including a 20-7 mark at home and a 9-18 record on the road. During his career, he is 32-10 in all home games, 14-26 on the road, 10-6 in neutral court contests and 20-10 in games decided by five points or less. Lansing is 2-4 against Creighton, having never faced them in the MVC Tournament. With the Trees, Lansing is 4-4 in overtime games and 40-3 when holding teams to 63 points or less. Lansing is 5-1 in the MVC Tournament, including a mark of 0-0 against Creighton in conference tournament action. Saturday's game will be Greg Lansing's 99th as Indiana State head coach. Lansing is the second head coach to lead the Sycamores to the NCAA Tournament in their rookie campaign in the history of the program, with the other being Bill Hodges leading ISU to a 33-1 record and a Final Four appearance in the 1979 NCAA Tournament. Lansing was just the 14th rookie head coach in the history of the MVC to lead his team to 20 victories during their debut season.

Indiana State is currently in its 117th season of college basketball at the school. The Sycamores are 1,403-1,209 all-time on the hardwood. Indiana State's 76-57 home court victory over No. 13/16 Creighton was the 1,400th victory in the history of the program on February 6.

Bench Play Key For Sycamores In Victory Over No. 4 Evansville At Arch Madness
Indiana State received 30 of its 51 total points against Evansville in the MVC Tournament Quarterfinals from the bench, including a game-best 11 points from freshman Devonte Brown. Brown also provided a key blocked shot at the buzzer which helped preserve the victory after Justin Gant hit 1-of-2 free throws with two seconds left for the win. Jake Kitchell tied a career-best with nine points off the bench for the Sycamores.

Sycamores Have Won Two Straight In Arch Madness Semifinals
Indiana State has won in each of its last two Arch Madness Semifinal appearances heading into the game against No. 1 Creighton on Saturday. ISU took down No. 2 Wichita State in 2011 en route to winning the tournament championship and also bested No. 1 Creighton in the semifinals of the 2001 MVC Tournament. That victory over the Bluejays came as the Sycamores were the No. 5 seed and became the lowest-seeded team to win the tournament championship.

Jake Odum Is First All-MVC First Team Selection Since 2001
Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum has earned First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as announced by the league office following a vote of head coaches, sports information directors and a media panel. Odum is the first Sycamore to be named First Team All-MVC since Matt Renn accomplished the feat in 2001. Only nine times since ISU joined the league has a Sycamore been named to the league's first team. Other Sycamores who have earned First Team All-MVC selections are: Larry Bird (MVP in 1978 & 1979), Carl Nicks (1979 & 1980), John Sherman Williams (1985 & 1986), Nate Green (MVP in 2000) and Matt Renn (2001).

History On Sycamores' Side As A No. 5 Seed
Indiana State was last the No. 5 seed at the MVC Tournament in 2001 when the Sycamores became the lowest ranked team to win the tournament title. ISU opened that tournament with a 67-64 victory over Southern Illinois, went on to beat No. 1 Creighton 87-74 and won the championship with a 69-63 victory over No. 2 Bradley.

Indiana State head coach Greg Lansing is 5-1 in three seasons of Missouri Valley Conference Tournament play. In 2011, Lansing led the Sycamores to victories over No. 6 Evansville, No. 2 Wichita State and No. 1 Missouri State to win the league championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001. He became the first Sycamore coach to reach the NCAA Tournament in their rookie season since Bill Hodges did it in 1978-79. Last season, the Sycamores went 1-1, winning on Thursday night against Southern Illinois as the No. 8 seed before falling to league champion Wichita State in the quarterfinals. So far, ISU is 1-0 in 2013 as they downed No. 4 Evansville on Friday. Lansing has compiled a 5-1 record in the MVC Tournament, including a mark of 3-1 as the lower seeded team.

Odum Leads The Sycamores In Scoring During The Final Week Of The Regular Season
Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum tallied 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game as the Sycamores played Drake and Evansville in the final week of MVC play. Odum was 11-of-20 from the field (55 percent), hit a pair of 3-pointers and was 9-of-13 from the free throw line (69.2 percent). Odum scored 20 points in the final regular season game of the season at Evansville, hitting 7-of-13 shots (53.8 percent), including a 3-pointer. He added six rebounds and five assists. He added 13 points (4-of-7 from the field) with four rebounds, five assists and two steals against Drake.

Jake Odum Moving Up Indiana State Single Season Free Throw List
Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum entered the Bradley game with 149 free throws on the year and with his 10 made in the game at Bradley on February 16, he entered the Sycamore single-season Top 10 list, passing Larry Bird, Jerry Newsom and Wayne Allison and now has 172 on the year (through the Evansville game), which ranks fifth. Bird's 221 made free throws in 1978-79, is the school record. Throughout the course of the Bradley game on Feb. 16, Odum passed both Bird and Duane Kleuh, the only two Sycamores to have their jerseys retired. His 10-of-10 free throw performance is the best by an Indiana State player since Dwayne Lathan made 10-of-10 against Southern Illinois on February 11, 2012. Additionally, Odum made 19 free throws in a row dating back to the Southern Illinois contest on February 9 and extending to the first half of the Wichita State game on Feb. 19. Odum is four made free throws away from passing Howard Dardeen (175 in 61-62) for fourth on the ISU single-season list. Additionally, Odum has attempted 224 free throws this season, which is fifth on the ISU single-season free throws attempted list and needs 10 more to tie Howard Dardeen (1961-62) for fourth.

Jake Odum Is Just Eighth Sycamore Sophomore To Join The ISU 1,000-Point Club
Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum reached the 1,000-point mark for his career as he posted a team-best 22 points in the victory over No. 13/16 Creighton on February 6 inside Hulman Center. Odum became the 35th member of the Indiana State 1,000 Point Club with a free throw late in the second half against the Bluejays. Odum is just the eighth Sycamore in the history of the program to reach the 1,000-point mark during his junior season. With his 20 points against Evansville, Odum now has 1,112 career points, which is 23rd on the ISU scoring list and needs seven more to tie Dick Atha for 22nd. Other Sycamores to reach 1,000 points by the end of their junior campaign are Larry Bird (1,877 in two seasons), John Sherman Williams (1,787), Jerry Newsom (1,338), Butch Wade (1,135), David Moss (1,214), Eddie Bird (1,207) and Kelyn Block (1,018).

Jake Odum Now One Of Eight Players At ISU To Reach The Career Top 10 Lists For Assists & Steals
Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum has 165 career steals, which ranks him tied for fifth all-time in the Sycamore basketball record book with Matt Renn (165 from 1997-01), needing 23 more to reach fourth place, currently held by Michael Menser (188 from 1997-01). Odum also now has 442 assists for his career which is good enough for sixth place. He needs four more to catch Gabe Moore (444 from 2004 to 2008) for fifth all-time. Odum is the third Sycamore in the history of the program to rank in the Indiana State Top Six for both assists and steals in a career (Nate Green & Gabe Moore are the others).

Indiana State Has Reached 17 Regular Season Victories For Fourth Consecutive Season; First Time Since Early 1960's
With its 65-64 victory over Iona on February 23, 2013, the Sycamores have now posted at least 17 victories for the fourth consecutive season, which is the first time four Indiana State teams have reached that mark in succession since the 1960-61, 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1963-64 seasons. The Sycamores won 17 in 60-61, 19 in 61-62, 18 in 62-63 and 17 in 63-64. The Sycamores won 17 games in 2009-10, 20 in 2010-11, 18 in 2011-12 and 17 so far this season. Indiana State has also secured its fourth consecutive winning season for the first time since a stretch of campaigns in 1997-98 through 2000-01.

Newcomers Are No Problem For Indiana State
With Jake Odum being the lone Sycamore starter to return in 2012-13, Indiana State has relied on a stable of five newcomers so far this season for a large chunk of its offensive production. Led by Manny Arop, who is a two-time MVC Newcomer Of The Week selection and is currently second on the team with a 12.3 ppg average ISU has seen over four of every 10 points come from someone who was not on the active roster one year ago. For the season, 846 points have come from newcomers, of a total of 2,064 scored (41.0 percent).

Sycamore Success Inside Hulman Center Under Greg Lansing
The Sycamores are 32-10 (.762) inside Hulman Center under third-year head coach Greg Lansing. The Sycamores have won 23 of their last 30 home games. Additionally, the Sycamores have won 20 of their last 27 MVC games at home. This season, the Sycamores lost just three times at home, in overtime to nationally-ranked New Mexico on December 1, on Feb. 19 to league-leading Wichita State and in the home finale on Feb. 27 to Drake.

63 Is The Magic Number
The Sycamores win by the score of 51-50 on March 8 against Evansville was ISU's 14th this season in which they held an opponent to 63 points or less and earned the victory. ISU is currently 14-2 on the season when holding an opponent under that total. Under third-year head coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are 40-3 when allowing less than 63 points to the opposition (including a 15-0 mark when holding teams to 53 or less).

Good Starter On The Battery
Indiana State is 10-5 this season when the Sycamore starters outscore their counterparts for the opposition. Under third-year head coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are 34-12 when the ISU starting five scores more than their opponent's starters.

No. 13/16 Creighton Is The Highest Nationally Ranked Opponent To Fall At Hulman Center In MVC Era
The No. 13/16 Creighton Bluejays rolled into Hulman Center on February 2 as the highest ranked team to take on the Sycamores at home since No. 12 Tulsa visited on Feb. 2, 1985. With the 76-57 victory against the Bluejays, the Sycamores are now 11-18 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents and earned their first victory inside Hulman Center against a ranked foe since downing No. 14 Butler in December of 2006. It was the highest ranked opponent that ISU has beaten anywhere since a victory over No. 13 Oklahoma in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. No. 13/16 Creighton is the highest ranked opponent to fall to the Sycamores inside Hulman Center in the MVC era.

Greg Lansing Takes Suits and Sneakers For Cancer Awareness To The Indiana State Capital Building
Indiana State and Northern Iowa participated in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneaks Challenge along with the rest of the nation's teams this weekend. All of the basketball coaches in the state of Indiana have issued a challenge to the state's lawmakers to wear sneakers with their suits on Monday, January 28 as part of the program to promote cancer awareness. Through an invitation from State Representative Bob Heaton, who played for ISU on the 1978-79 team which advanced to the NCAA Final Four, ISU head coach Greg Lansing will officially issue the day's challenge to Indiana Speaker Of The House Brian Bosma at the State House in Indianapolis on January 28.

Sycamores Have Held Two Teams This Season Without A Triple
Indiana State did not allow a made 3-pointer at Illinois State on January 23 as the Redbirds went 0-for-13 from long range on their home court and snapped a string of over 400 games with one which dated back to 1999. It marked the second time this season that the Sycamores have not allowed a trey in a game as nationally-ranked Miami went 0-of-15 back on December 25 in the consolation game of the Diamond Head Classic. For the season, the Sycamores are allowing teams to make just 30.4 percent of their threes attempted (96-of-316), which ranks third in the MVC behind Missouri State and Creighton.

Jake Odum Named One Of 25 Finalists For the Lou Henson Award; Earlier Named To 2013 Bob Cousy Award Watch List
Jake Odum has been named to the 2013 Bob Cousy Award Watch List and is one of 25 finalists for the Lou Henson Award. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men's college basketball. The Lou Henson Award goes to the nation's top mid-major college basketball player. A fan vote determines 33 percent of the overall final award tally and fans may vote for Odum by visiting http://www.votelouhenson.com. The Lou Henson Award will be presented during final four weekend.

Sycamores In Postseason Play For Third Consecutive Season
With Indiana State's appearance in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, the Sycamores have now made three consecutive trips to postseason play. ISU played in the 2010 College Basketball Invitational as well as the 2011 NCAA Tournament in addition to the CIT Tournament in 2012. The last time the Sycamores reached postseason play for three consecutive seasons came in 1977-79 when Indiana State played in the 1977 & 1978 NIT as well as the 1979 NCAA Tournament. The last time Indiana State hosted a postseason game came on March 10, 1978 when the Sycamores hosted Illinois State in the first round of the NIT.
