Men's basketball signs SMU transfer Chance Puryear

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State men's basketball head coach Matthew Graves announced the signing of Chance Puryear.

Puryear spent his first two seasons at SMU but redshirted his true freshman year. The redshirt freshman will enter with three seasons of college eligibility.

"We are very excited to add Chance to our roster for the upcoming season," said head coach Matthew Graves. "He brings a tremendous amount of versatility with his size and length on the perimeter. Chance has a great perspective on being in a competitive environment and helping a team win at a high level."

Last season at SMU, the Dallas, Texas native appeared in 14 games with four points, six rebounds, and a block. Before SMU, he played at Carter High School on a 31-6 team that played in the regional final. Puryear was named 4A All-State, the District 13-4A Player of the Year, and was a 2024 McDonald's All-American Game Nominee. That season he averaged 14.0 points per game, nine rebounds, and the assists. Puryear also was selected as the District 12-4A Freshman of the Year and Sophomore of the Year.

Entering college, he was a three-star signee ranked once as the No. 12 overall player in Texas and No. 34 nationally at his position.
