DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Indiana State
women's golf team started the final round in fourth and ended in the same
position as the Southwest Minnesota State University Spring Invitational concluded
Friday. The tournament was played on the Legends Course at LPGA International
in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Indiana
State had a round of 331 on Thursday but came back with a 314 in the second
round Friday to finish with a 45 total. Lynn University (Fla.) won the team
title with a 610 total with Barry University (Fla.) second at 621, and Flagler
(Fla.) third at 636. Lynn is one of the top NAIA programs in the Nation with
Barry and Flagler among the top NCAA Division II teams.
Amanda
Smith led the Sycamore effort as she followed her 79 on Thursday with a 78 in
Friday's final round to finish tied for ninth with a 157 total. Emily Dixon
came back with a 77 in Friday's final round after opening with an 83 on
Thursday to finish tied for 17th with a 160 total. Christina Beyerl made the
biggest improvement for Indiana State as she carded a 77 Friday after opening
with an 88 Thursday and moving from a tie for 37th to a tie for 25th.
Reece
Feducia finished in 27th with rounds of 84 and 82 to finish with a 166 total
while McCall Christopher had rounds of 85 and 82 to finish with a 167 total and
tied for 28th. Gina Della Camera also competed and had rounds of 89 and 87 to
finish with a 176 total and in 41st.
Ellen
Chambers of Lynn University was the invitational medalists with a two round
total of 150. Teammate Louise Manalo, the first round leader, finished in a tie
for second with Flagler's Marie Santacroce as each shot a 152.
Other
schools in the competition that finished behind Indiana State were: Williams
Woods (Mo.), fifth at 646; California (Penn.), sixth at 656; Northwood (Fla.),
seventh at 671; Minnesota State, eighth at 695; Southwest Minnesota State, ninth
at 735; and Marian (Ind.), 10th with a 758 total.
The
Sycamores are off until April 5-6 when they compete in the Bradley Spring Invitational
in Peoria, Ill.
