ISU Women?s Basketball Falls to Stetson on the Road, 90-74

Box Score

DELAND, Fla. – The Indiana State Women's Basketball team dug itself into a hole in the first half that it couldn't climb out of as it fell 90-74 to Stetson on Monday evening at the Edmunds Center. ISU falls to 2-2 overall on the 2013-14 season.

Four Sycamores posted double-figures with junior forward Racheal Mahan, sophomore forward Marina Laramie and senior guard Anna Munn all scored 14 points each on the evening.  Junior college transfer Lashonda Littleton also added 10 points and six boards.

Indiana State (2-2) found itself trailing by eight at the break, 35-27, and couldn't find an answer for the Hatters in the second half as it allowed 90 points for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Stetson came out of the locker room at half and scored the first five points of the half before Munn hit a three pointer and junior forward Travecia Fraklin hit a jumper to cut the lead to seven.

However, the Hatters wouldn't relent as a Sasha Sims trey pushed lead back to 14. Sims, the preseason Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, scored 24 points – including 15 in the second half.

ISU would come within six with 5:40 to play on another triple by Munn. But Stetson built up another lead, this time a 16 point deficit for the Sycamores with 2:19 to go that couldn't be erased in the end.

Mahan led with seven rebounds as Laramie picked up six despite the Sycamores being out rebounded 48-36. Senior guard and MVC Newcomer of the Week Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir led with a career-high seven assists and picked up two steals in the loss.

Turnovers also marred the ISU effort, as they gave up 17 possessions in the contest.

Mahan scored the first four points of the game before Stetson went on a 7-0 run to lead 7-4 at the first media timeout.

Out of the timeout, Munn scored her first three pointer of the game to tie things up at 7-7. Stetson used a 7-4 run to take a 20-14 lead on a three pointer by Sims.

Johnson hit a three out of the eight minute media timeout to cut the lead to three but Stetson scored the next four points to keep their lead at seven.

Things continued to go the Hatters way in the first half as it led by as many as eight with 4:12 to play. Laramie hit two free throws followed by a jumper to cut the lead to six with 1:15 to play.

Up next for the Sycamores is a visit to Marshall on Sunday, Nov. 24 in Huntington, WV. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET.
