ST. LOUIS – Indiana State
senior Dustin Betz has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Cross
County Athlete of the Week it was announced today by the league office.
Betz
led six Sycamore Harriers into the top-10 including the top three spots at the
Bradley Open last Friday with a winning time of 24:57 in the 8K event. Betz, a
2012 MVC All-Conference performer, ran a patient race while leading a pack of
Sycamore runners that maintained contact with the lead group through most of
the race. The senior then took control in the final kilometer, passing a pack
of Iowa runners and two Indiana State teammates in pulling away for the win by
three seconds.
Evansville
junior Kelby Jenkins was name the MVC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the
Week.
Indiana State junior Jessica Zangmeister was named a
notable performer for the Valley. Zangmeister ran to a seventh place finish at
the Bradley Open Friday as she completed the three-mile event with a time of
17:34. The Sycamores were up against three of the best teams in the Midwest
Region led by the Iowa Hawkeyes who took the top four spots in the race.
Zangmeister ran a strategic race and was moving up in the final kilometer to
finish just behind two Bradley runners and lead three other Sycamores into the
top 20.
