INDIANAPOLIS -
The Butler Bulldogs were dominant at home on Friday night, topping the Indiana
State women's soccer team by a score of 3-0 from the Butler Bowl in
Indianapolis.
Butler controlled much of the possession in the first half, holding an 8-2
advantage in shots and 3-0 edge in corner kicks after 45 minutes.
Sophia Maccagnone gave the Bulldogs the lead in the 37th minute, as her shot
from 20 yards out deflected off an Indiana State defender and went just inside
the near post and passed the diving hands of freshman Erin Mitchell in goal for
Indiana State.
Freshman Sydney Lovelace took both of Indiana State's shots in the opening
half, with neither attempt being on frame.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on the Sycamores to open the second half,
scoring a pair of goals in the opening 16 minutes after halftime. Mitchell kept
ISU within one goal with a diving save on a shot from the top of the penalty
box, punching the ball out for a corner kick. Butler scored on the ensuing
attempt, as Kelly Mahoney jumped high for a header at the back post. BU made it
3-0 in the 61st minute on a penalty kick.
Butler was dominant throughout the game, leading 18-2 in shots and 8-1 in
corner kicks.
Mitchell finished the game with five saves. Lovelace led the Sycamores with a
pair of shots in the first half.
Indiana State returns to Terre Haute and Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon,
