HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Shannon Thomas posted her second
straight double-double while senior Brittany Schoen and sophomore Anna Munn
combined for seven three-pointers, leading the Indiana State women's basketball
team to a 71-60 victory over the visiting Northern Iowa Panthers on Susan G.

The Sycamores swept their weekend homestand, moving to 12-12 on the season and
6-6 within the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers fell to 15-9 overall
and 8-5 in league play.
Indiana State began the game on 6-0 run, using a layup by junior Taylor Whitley
and a layup and a pair of free-throws from Thomas to build the early advantage.
Northern Iowa responded by scoring 21 of the next 32 points to take their
largest lead of the game, capping a 6-0 run for a six-point lead at 23-17 with
6:32 left in the first half on a jumper by senior K.K. Armstrong.
The game went into the halftime locker room tied at 30-30 thanks to Schoen, who
sank a trey with seven seconds left in the opening 20 minutes of play. Thomas,
Schoen and freshman Natasha Zurek all tallied six points in the first half, with
Thomas adding nine rebounds.
With the score tied at 34-34 with 17:58 remaining, Munn scored eight of her
game-high 17 points in a decisive 10-0 run for the Sycamores. Munn knocked down
a pair of three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, pushing a four-point
advantage to 10 points at 44-34 with 14:36 to play.
The Panthers would never get closer than seven points for the remainder of the
game. ISU would take their largest lead of the game with 3:22 to play, when the
Sycamores broke the UNI press defense and took a 67-52 lead on a layup by
Thomas.
Munn led three scorers in double-figures for ISU, scoring 13 of her game-high
17 points in the second half. Thomas posted her 27
th career
double-double, going for 13 points, 18 rebounds and a career-high five assists.
Schoen played all 40 minutes on Sunday, adding 12 points on a 4-for-7 effort from
three-point range.
The Indiana State bench outscored Northern Iowa's nonstarters, 18-6. Freshman
Racheal Mahan led the way with nine points and four rebounds, while Zurek added
six points and three assists and freshman Travecia Franklin went for three
points and two rebounds.
ISU won the rebounding battle, 42-33, allowing just six second-chance points to
Panthers.
Indiana State hits the road for their next two games, both with key
implications for seeding at the upcoming State Farm MVC Tournament. The
Sycamores face the Drake Bulldogs (6-7 MVC) on Friday, Feb. 17, before taking
on the Creighton Bluejays (7-6 MVC) on Sunday, Feb. 19.
