SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
The Indiana State women's golf team wrapped up competition in the Payne Stewart
Memorial Tuesday, moving up one spot to finish eighth in the 15 team field.
Sophomore Amanda Smith led the Sycamore effort for the second straight
tournament as she tied for 25th out of the 93 individuals with a 54-hole total
of 234.
Five
of the six Sycamore golfers improved their position in the tournament during
the final round.
Smith
was toed for 30th after shooting 79 and 77 in Monday's first two rounds and
came back with a 78 in Tuesday's final round for a 234 total which tied her for
25th. Senior Christina Beyerl struggled in Monday's opening round with an 87
but came back with a 76 in the afternoon session to head into the final round
tied for 49th. Beyerl fired a team low 77 Tuesday to finish at 240 and tied for
39th.
Senior
Emily Dixon also moved up in the final round after shooting 79 and 85 on Monday
to enter the final round tied for 54th. Dixon posted 79 in Tuesday's final
round to finish with a 243 total and tied for 46th. Junior McCall Christopher was
tied for 36th after the first two rounds with scores of 79 and 80 but fell back
in the third round with an 85 to finish with a 244 total and tied for 49th.
Sophomore
Gina Della Camera was tied for 61st after Monday's first two rounds with
identical scores of 83 but lowered her score Tuesday with an 81 to finish with a
247 total and tied for 56th. Sophomore Andrea Frankiewicz also improved from
start to finish as she was tied for 71st after Monday with rounds of 86 and 84,
and posted an 84 Tuesday to move up into 60th.
Arkansas-Little
Rock led from start to finish to take the team title with an 895 total while
host Missouri State finished second (897) and Oral Roberts third (909). Wichita
State placed fourth (920) followed by Oklahoma City University (925), Nebraska
(934), Missouri-Kansas City (935), and Indiana State (951). Rounding out the competition
was Drake (954), Valparaiso (960), Drury (971), Nebraska-Omaha (974), Creighton
(990), South Dakota (1022, and Rockhurst (1029).
Arkansas-Little
Rock's Emelie Westrup had the low round Tuesday with a two-under par 70 which
gave her medalist honors with a 218 total. Missouri State's Emma Clegg led
after the first two rounds but posted a 75 Tuesday to finish with a 219 total
and in second place. Lindsey Eisenreich of Missouri State was third with a 223
total.
Indiana
State will have two weeks to prepare for their final tournament of the Fall
season when they will compete in the Charles Braun Invitational which will be
played at the Quail Crossing Golf Club in Evansville, Ind., Oct. 29-30.
