MANHATTAN, KAN. - The Indiana State Sycamores finished in a tie for ninth at the 2011 Marilynn Smith Invitational Tuesday after recording their best round of the tournament and moving up in the standings.
The Sycamores fired a 316 total in the final round played today at Colbert Hills Golf Course to tie South Dakota State as each scored finished with a 954 total. Indiana State played two rounds on Monday as they fired a 318 in the morning session and a 320 in the afternoon round.
A trio of juniors led the Sycamore resurgence including Reece Feducia who finished with a four-over 76 in the final round. Feducia had a 75 and 83 in Monday's first two rounds to finish tied for 27th with a career best 54 hole total of 234. Christina Beyerl had an 82 in the final 18 after posting scores of 81 and 76 on Monday to tie for 41st with a 239 total which is also a career best for 54 holes. Emily Dixon had her best round of the tournament with a 78 in Tuesday's third round after posting an 82 and 83 on Monday and finishing tied for 50th with a 243 total.
Freshman Gina DellaCamera matched Dixon's placement as she also tied for 50th with a 243 total after shooting an 84 in today's final round. DellaCamera shot a career best 78 in Monday's second round after firing an 81 in the morning session. Sophomore McCall Christopher rounded out the Sycamore effort by finishing in 54th with 54 hole total of 244. Christopher had her best round of the tournament today with an 80 after posting an 81 and 83 on Monday.
Arkansas-Little Rock led from start to finish taking the team title and outdistanced the field with an 891 total. Host Kansas State was second with a 905 total while Missouri State finished third at 907. Oral Roberts was fourth (911), Kansas fifth (921), Missouri-Kansas City sixth (923), Wichita State seventh (940), and Arkansas State eighth (949). Rounding out the field behind Indiana State and South Dakota State were Bradley in 11th (955) and Creighton in 12th (968).
Arkansas-Little Rock's Malin Lundberg struggled in the third round but still held on for a one-shot victory and taking medalist honors with a 217 total. Kansas State's Gianna Misenhelter was second (218) and Oral Roberts Crystal Reeves third (219) after posting the low round of the tournament at 69 in the final round.
Indiana State will be back in action next week as they compete in the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis on Monday and Tuesday.
