LOUIS - Freshman Natalie Vaught scored a goal and tallied an
assist for the second straight match last Friday against Murray State, earning the
Sycamore rookie the Missouri Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week award as
announced by the league office.
Vaught has been selected for the award the last two weeks, as the freshman as
racked up seven points on a pair of goals and three assists in her last three
games.
In Friday's 2-0 victory, the Florence, Ky., native opened up the scoring in the
15th minute, taking advantage of a mistake in the MSU defensive half
to evade the keeper and give ISU the lead. Vaught got right back into the
attack for ISU's second goal, picking up an assist as her shot on goal was
blocked to senior Seyma Erenli, who put the ball away. For the season, Vaught
leads Indiana State with seven points on her two goals and three assists.
Vaught and the Sycamores have three road matches on their schedule this week, coming
in a span of five days. ISU begins the road trip at Purdue on Wednesday, Sept.
14, before continuing against Ohio on Friday, Sept. 16, and Miami (Ohio) on
Sunday, Sept. 18.
