TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's soccer team and the Locks of Love organization are teaming up for a day-long charity out at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute on Saturday, April 2. After taking on Purdue in the morning and Saint Louis in the afternoon, members of the soccer team will be donating their hair to the Locks of Love organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-team medical hair loss as a side effect of their treatments.
A total of 10 teams will be coming to take part in the event in Terre Haute, as Purdue, Indiana, Saint Louis, Ball State, IUPUI, Evansville, IPFW, St. Joseph's and Rose Hulman will be joining the Sycamores on the field for spring soccer action.
Games on the field will begin bright and early at 8:00 a.m., with ISU's contests taking place at 10:20 a.m. against Purdue and at 3:40 p.m. against Saint Louis. Admission is $2 for the entire day of games, with all proceeds and donations going to benefit Locks of Love.
The Locks of Love organization, which began operation in 1998, provides the prostheses to children, ages 6-21, every 18 months for a total of up to 10 hairpieces. These hairpieces require between 6-10 ponytails and take approximately 4-6 months to manufacture. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the national publicity that Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines, television programs and other events. Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax deductible.
