WINTER SPRINGS, FLA. ? The Sycamore women's golf team opened up the spring portion of their 2010-2011 schedule today as they competed in the first two rounds of the 36th Annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational being played at Tuscawilla Country Club and hosted by Rollins College.
Indiana State completed the first two rounds in 10th place with a 631 total after shooting 331 during the morning's first 18 holes and coming back with a 320 in the afternoon 18 hole round. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday morning with an 8:00 a.m. (ET) start.
Sophomore Christina Beyerl (McCordsville, Ind.) and sophomore Emily Dixon (Zionsville, Ind.) paced the Sycamore effort as they finished the first two rounds tied for 31st with a 161 total. Beyerl opened with an 80 in the first round and shot 81 in the final 18 while Dixon carded an 83 in the first round and then shot a team low 78 in the second 18.
Senior Brittney Martin (Fishers, Ind.) is tied for 48th with a two-round total of 185 after shooting 84 during the morning round and 81 in the afternoon. Freshman McCall Christopher (Lee's Summit, Mo.) is at 186 and tied for 52nd after an opening round 86 but coming back to fire card an 80 in the second round. Junior Reece Feducia (San Clemente, Calif.) is tied for 55th with an 84 in the first round and 83 in the second 18.
Rounding out the Sycamore competitors is senior Diana Price (Terre Haute, Ind.) who is 78th in the field after two rounds with a pair of 90s on the day.
Melanie Audette of Florida Southern leads the field with a 148 total with Goeun Lee of St. Leo University second at 149. Mitsuki Katahira of Daytona State College and Abbey Gittings of Nova Southeastern are tied for third at 150 while Sandra Changkija of Nova Southeastern and Ericka Schneider of Daytona State College are tied for fifth with 151.
Florida Southern leads the field with a 613 total followed by Nova Southeastern (614), Rollins College (621), Daytona State College (628), St. Leo University (629), Florida South “B” (638), St. Edward's University (64`1), Newberry College (645), California-PA (648), and Indiana State (651). The rest of the field has Lynn University and Carson Newman College tied for 11th at 652 followed by Wingate University (671) and University of Montevallo (696).
Thirteen schools and 82 individuals are competing in the tournament being played on the 6,089 yard, par-72 Tuscawilla Country Club course.
Eight of the top 25 teams in Division II are competing in the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. Nova Southeastern, the top ranked team in Division II, is the two-time defending champion and is joined in the field by second ranked Florida Southern, fourth ranked Rollins College, eighth ranked St. Edwards, 19th ranked Newberry, 20th ranked West Florida, 22nd ranked Saint Leo, and 23rd ranked California (Pa.) University. Also in the field will be Indiana State, Carson Newman, Daytona State, Lynn, Montevallo, and Wingate.
The Sycamores will remain in Florida during ISU's Spring Break week by playing in the Sunshine Spring Classic, hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy, on Friday and Saturday at Walkabout Golf and Country Club in Mims, Fla. The tournament will feature 18 holes of play on Friday with a final 18 on Saturday.
Host Detroit Mercy and Jackson State competed in the 2010 NCAA Championship after each won their conference champions a year ago, Detroit Mercy in the Horizon League and Jackson State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Also in the field is Florida Tech, ranked 39th in Division II, and a pair of teams ranked in NAIA, St. Francis (Illinois) who is ranked 41st and Weber International who is ranked 51st.
Also in the field are Indiana State, Albany, Creighton, IPFW, IUPUI, Lehigh, Loyola-Chicago, Radford, Seminole State, SIU Edwardsville, and Youngstown State.
