Women?s Soccer Adds 12 On Spring Signing Day

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's soccer program, led by head coach Erika True, has announced the signing of 12 incoming freshmen to National Letters of Intent to join the Sycamore soccer program for the 2011 season. The women's soccer team continued to show improvement on the pitch during head coach True's second year in charge, tying the program record with six consecutive wins last season while finishing with the second-most victories in a single year, with eight.

"I am very excited to have the 2011 signing class join our Sycamore family today! This group of young women is coming from top club and high school programs all over the country," said head coach Erika True. "The combination of high academics and tremendous soccer ability will be noticed throughout each player of this freshman class. I am looking forward to seeing this large signing group join a core foundation of returners this fall. It is going to make for an exciting Fall season as the Sycamores continue to improve off this past year's successful season."

Below is a quick rundown of each NLI signee that will be joining the women's soccer program at Indiana State next season, along with a quote from head coach True.


Abbey Anderson - Forward

Evansville, Ind. - Harrison High School

Member of the Harrison High School team that reached their sectional's championship in three of the last four seasons, including a section title in 2007 ... four-time selection the Evansville's All-City All-Academic team ... also earned second-team all-city and captain honors while with the Warriors ... played for six years with the Evansville Soccer Club, earning captain status with the ESC.

"Abbey is a player we identified very early in the recruiting process because of her speed and pure athleticism," said head coach True. "Abbey is one of the best players in the area in the air and is extremely dangerous on set pieces. She has a willingness and desire to score goals that cannot be taught and we are really excited about her future in our program."


Katrine Baker - Midfielder 

Las Vegas, Nev. - Sierra Vista High School

A three-year letterwinner at Sierra Vista High School, earning team captain honors in each of her three seasons ... two-time team MVP ... selected to the All-Southern Nevada, All-Sunset Region and All-Southwest Conference in each of the last two seasons with her senior season on the field coming this spring ... has played club soccer for the last 14 years with Neusport Green 93, claiming the USYS Nevada State Championship in seven of those years ... won the Surf Cup Championship with Neusport in 2009.

"Katrine is joining us from one of the top club teams in Region IV and will bring a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience with her to Indiana State," said head coach True. "Her strength in the air, fearlessness in the tackle and determination to battle for everything in the middle of the park are going to make her a force to be reckoned with when she steps onto the pitch for us."


Sadie Bauserman - Defender

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Northrop High School

Earned selection to the first-team all-conference list each of the last three seasons at Northrop High School ... two-time first-team all-district selection ... named to the third-team all-state last season ... selected as the South Bend Eagle Defensive MVP in 2010 ... played club soccer with fellow 2011 signee Emily Chura on the Fort Wayne Fever ... won the State Cup Championship with the Fever in 2010.

"We are very excited to add Sadie into our core defensive group of players this fall. She is one of the hardest players that I have ever seen play at the youth level," said head coach True. "Her ability to inflict game-changing tackles, win balls out of the air and get forward in the attack, are going to be traits that we will expect to see from her as she joins an experienced group of defensive players."


Brittany Buckler - Defender

Rochester, Mich. - Rochester Adams High School

Named to the all-conference, all-district and all-region teams while at Rochester Adams High School ... won both conference and district championships at RAHS ... played on both U-8 and U-17 squads with the Michigan Hawks ... won five-straight State Cup Championships from 2007-2011 ... named the State Cup MVP following one season.

"Brittany has a fantastic soccer pedigree coming to join our program from the Michigan Hawks," said head coach True. "Brittany has been a mainstay in the defensive third for the Hawks throughout each of their last five consecutive state championships. Her composure under pressure, organizational abilities, and consistency in the back will make an immediate impact on our program."


Bria Caldwell - Forward

Richland, Wash. - Richland High School

Started since her freshman season at Richland High School ... surpassed 50 goals for her high school career with 16 this past season for the Bombers ... led the CBNN 4A in assists last season ... led RHS to the CBBN 4A District Championship in 2010.

"Bria was our most recent addition to this 2011 class. She is coming to us from the state of Washington and going to add a new dimension to the attacking half of our game," said head coach True. "Bria will help us link together in the attacking third with her ability to hold the ball under pressure and play with her back to goal. She has natural athletic abilities and raw soccer talent that is going to continue to develop and grow over her four years here at ISU."


Emily Chura - Midfielder

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Bishop Dwenger High School

A two-time all-conference selection while at Bishop Dwenger High School ... earned third-team all-state honors last season ... named to first-team all-district squad last season after being selected to the second team as a sophomore and a junior ... led BDHS to two conference titles, along with one sectional championship ... played club soccer with fellow 2011 signee Sadie Bauserman on the Fort Wayne Fever ... won the State Cup Championship with the Fever in 2010.

"You can tell Emily has grown up around the game of soccer with both parents and her brother playing at very high levels of the game," said head coach True. "She has a tremendous ability to read the game and the innate ability to control the middle of the park. She will be a player that we look to immediately contribute to our team in 2011."


Tara Cureton - Forward

Northville, Mich. - Northville High School

Lettered in soccer at Northville High School ... played her club soccer with Novi Michigan FC.

"Tara is a player that has made huge strides in her game even since committing to Indiana State last spring," said head coach True. "As a forward, her movement off the ball, dominating physical presence, and ability to finish inside the 18 yard box are skills that should make Tara a force to be reckoned with in the MVC. She will be yet another player that should immediately impact our frontline and help to connect us in the attack."


Carson Moesle - Defender

Orland Park, Ill. - Carl Sandburg High School

A three-year letterwinner at Carl Sandburg High School ... earned all-conference selections in each of her first three seasons, picking up all-sectional and all-area awards as a junior ... still has her senior season at CSHS coming this spring ... played her club soccer with the Windy City Pride over the last four years.

"As one of the top prep players in the Chicago-land area, we are thrilled to have Carson joining our program in 2011," said head coach True. "Carson is a smooth, savvy central defender who will provide us with a different dimension in the back. Her ball-winning ability, natural leadership skills, and confidence in the back will give her the opportunity to become an integral part of our defensive unit."


Aubrie Musselman - Midfielder

Buffalo, Wyo. - Buffalo High School

Earned all-state honors in 2009 and 2010 while at Buffalo High School, leading BHS to the state championship game in both seasons ... played her club soccer with GC United for two seasons, winning the Trebol Shootout in 2009 and 2010 ... selected to play in the All-Star game following the Colorado Force FC Tournament this spring.

"We are very excited to have Aubrie join our program this coming fall," said head coach True. "She is the most down-to-earth, hardworking, kind-hearted girl that I have ever had the pleasure to recruit. Her high academics, involvement in community service and natural athletic ability make her a very well-rounded student-athlete for the Indiana State women's soccer program.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to continue to develop Aubrie into a top center midfielder for the Sycamores. We are looking forward to her making the long trip from Wyoming to join us this fall at ISU." 


Alexandra (AJ) Rodas - Forward

Crete, Ill. - Crete Monee High School

Played her high school soccer at Crete Monee High School, while playing two years of club soccer with Eclipse Select North ... also a standout Track & Field athlete, earning CMHS's Rookie of the Year award.

"AJ is another player that we identified very early in the recruiting process," said head coach True. "She first impacted the national recruiting scene while playing for Eclipse Select Soccer Club at the age of 15 where she was one of the top goal-scorers for her club. She has continued to develop into a fantastic prospect with breakaway speed, uncanny athleticism, and the ability to play multiple roles on the field."


Natalie Vaught - Midfielder / Forward

Florence, Ky. - Saint Henry District High School

Member of the Saint Henry District High School squad that won the Kentucky State Championship last season, finished 18th in the NSCAA National Rankings and 32nd in the POWERADE FAB 50 ESPN Rise Rankings ... honorable mention selection on the Kentucky Enquirer All-Stars ... Kentucky State All-Tournament Team member ... named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region team ... assisted SHDHS to back-to-back All 'A' State Championships in 2008 and 2009 ... played her club soccer at KSA '92 Elite since 2000.

"Natalie is a player that we came across very late in our recruiting efforts, but a player that we feel can have a remarkable impact for us next year," said head coach True. "She has the ability to control the tempo and rhythm of a match by playing in one and two touches flawlessly. After leading her team to a Kentucky High School State Championship we are looking forward to her bringing that winning mentality to Indiana State." 


Marisa Windisch - Midfielder / Forward

Overland Park, Kan. - Blue Valley West High School

A three-year starter at Blue Valley West High School ... led BVWHS to back-to-back Class 6A State Championships in 2009 and 2010 ... earned second-team all-conference selection last season, along with Honorable Mention All-Sun status ... named to the honorable mention all-conference team in 2009, as well as Second-Team All-Sun ... still has her senior season at BVWHS coming this spring ... played four years of club soccer with the Blue Valley Stars Real, assisting the team to three-straight Kansas State Cup semifinal appearances.

"Continuing a great following of other Blue Valley Soccer Club players, we are thrilled Marisa chose Indiana State to continue her education and playing career," said head coach True. "Marisa is a true flank player who possesses an excellent technical ability, a strong understanding of the game, and natural athleticism.  Marisa will likely play a variety of roles for us throughout her first season with the Sycamores."
