Creighton Tops Indiana State, 1-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Indiana State women's soccer team closed out their 2011 regular season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 on the road against Creighton at Morrison Stadium.

The loss drops ISU to 4-13-0 on the season and 1-5-0 in Missouri Valley Conference action. CU improves to 9-5-2 overall and stays undefeated in league play, at 4-0-1.


Indiana State and Creighton battled through a scoreless opening 45 minutes on Saturday night, with the Sycamore leading 3-1 in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks at the break.


Freshman Alexandra Rodas led ISU with a pair of shots, while senior Jessica Rosenberg took one attempt. CU had the only shot on goal in the opening half, when Andrea Zuniga's attempt was saved by senior Emily Lahay in the 16
th minute.

Creighton came out on the front foot in the second half, firing six shots and winning four corners in the first 20 minutes. The sixth attempt gave the Bluejays the lead, as Zuniga scored for the fifth time this season on a shot from outside the penalty box in the 67
th minute.

The Bluejays dominated the second half of play, ending the period with a 12-3 advantage in shots. CU also took six corner kicks in the final 45 minutes, while ISU did not attempt one in the second half.

For the match, Rosenberg and Rodas both took a pair of shots, with seniors Ashley Collins and Seyma Erenli both taking one each. Lahay played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.


Indiana State, currently holding the sixth and final seed for the upcoming State Farm MVC Tournament, will have to sit back and wait for the rest of the league to play out the regular season. A key match will take place on Saturday, as Drake heads to Evansville at 2:00 p.m. (ET). ISU is tied with Drake (1-3) and ahead of Evansville (0-4) in the standings.
