TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Sycamore men's basketball team (8-7, 3-1 MVC) used hot shooting to blow past the University of Northern Iowa (10-6, 1-3 MVC) Friday 70-45 at Hulman Center.

The victory improved ISU to a perfect 6-0 on the season and was the 11th consecutive win for the Trees at home. ISU is 3-1 in league play for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.

"I can't be happier," head coach Greg Lansing said.

Despite having two starters in Jake Kelly and Dwayne Lathan unable to play due to injury, the Sycamores started out shooting 6-7 from the floor and opened on an 18-2 run with the Panthers only points coming off free throws.

The Panthers finally got their first field goal of the game with 10:39 remaining in the first half to cut the Sycamore lead to 18-5.

The Sycamores continued to extend their lead to 31-13 off two 3-pointers from senior guard Jordan Printy, a 3-pointer and layup from freshman guard Steve McWhorter and a layup by junior Myles Walker.

The Sycamores never looked back and went into the halftime break holding a commanding 38-15 lead over the Panthers.
At halftime the Sycamores held the Panthers to a mere 19 percent shooting from the floor and only 5 field goals.

The Sycamores shot 56 percent from the floor and 54 percent from beyond the arc.

In the second half the Sycamores picked up right where they left off in the first half with a 3-pointer from McWhorter to extend the Sycamore lead to 26.

The Sycamores continued to extend their lead and reached their largest lead of the night with 31 at 51-20 with 14:36 remaining in the game off a jumper by McWhorter.

The Panthers could never overcome the deficit and the Sycamores went on to win 70-44. That is the largest Missouri Valley Conference win for the Sycamores since beating Evansville in 2008.

Four Sycamores reached double figures, led by McWhorter who had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

This marks the first win for the Sycamores over the two time defending MVC champion Panthers in their last four meetings. The Sycamores are also unbeaten at Hulman Center this season.

"We pride ourselves to protect our house and not let anyone come in and defeat us and I feel like we have done a good job of that this season," McWhorter said.

Printy had 11 points for the Sycamores. Walker and redshirt freshman Jake Odum each added 10 points for the Sycamores. Odum added seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.

The Sycamores finished the game shooting 53 percent from the floor and shot 60 percent from long range. The Sycamores also outscored the Panthers in the paint 18-4.

The Sycamore defense also played great defense holding the Panthers to 24 percent from the floor and only 11 field goals.

The Sycamores now have a quick turn around as they will return to action Sunday on the road as they travel to face the Drake University with a 6:05 p.m. tipoff.
