INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State women's soccer team used a key save in the opening minutes and a perfect series of passing in the second half to record their first win of the 2010 season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Butler at the Butler Bowl.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Lahay saved a penalty kick in the seventh minute of action after the Sycamores (1-2) were called for a foul in the penalty box. But Lahay stood tall and dove to her right to make a save to keep the game scoreless.

Butler (0-3) took the majority of the shots in the first half, holding a 9-3 advantage at the break, with Lahay making four saves in the first 45 minutes.

But the Sycamores continued to battle on the defensive end, knocking away numerous attempts from the Butler attackers. Indiana State would break through in the 71st minute, when junior Alison Gasparovich fed a perfect pass to fellow junior Ashley Collins in the top-left side of the penalty box. The Butler goalkeeper came out to cut down the angle, but Collins hit the back of the net to give the Sycamores a 1-0 lead.

After that, the Sycamores would continue to play strong defense and turn away the Bulldogs, who were pressing forward in search of a tying goal.

Lahay picks up her first win of the season, improving her record to an even 1-1. For the game, the ISU keeper made five saves in goal to record her first shutout of the season.

Overall, Butler took 13 shots to ISU's six and held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. In fact, Indiana State's only shot on goal on Friday afternoon was Collins' goal in the second half.

The Sycamores return home to Terre Haute and Memorial Stadium on Sunday for another in-state battle, this time with IPFW. The match is set to kickoff at 2:00 p.m.
