TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Twenty-four members of the Indiana State Track & Field team were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Scholar-Athlete team, it was announced today by the league office. Twelve members of the ISU men's team and 12 members of the Sycamore women's team were named to the team which honors athletes who placed in either the MVC Indoor Championship and/or the MVC Outdoor Championship this season.
Indiana State and Southern Illinois had 12 members each named to the men's scholar-athlete team. Wichita State had nine with Northern Iowa having eight selected, Drake four, and Illinois State three. Wichita State led the women's scholar-athlete team with 13 selections with the Sycamores second with 12 athletes named. Southern Illinois had 11, Northern Iowa 10, Illinois State seven, Missouri State had five, and Bradley and Drake had three selected.
On the men's team from Indiana State were:
Sophomores: Dustin Betz, aviation management, 3.40 grade point average (GPA); Drew LaMaster, professional aviation flight technology, 3.48 GPA; Ernest Rollins, communication, 3.40 GPA; Colton Slack, physical education, 3.31 GPA; Steven Swinford, physical education, 3.66 GPA; and, Jeremiah Vaughan, athletic training, 3.62 GPA.
Juniors: Michael Disher, accounting, 3.40 GPA; Tykeen Fulton, social work with a 3.21 GPA; Tyler Kent, construction management with a 3.61 GPA; and, Andrew Stull, construction management, 3.35 GPA.
Seniors; Patrick Mendenhall, business administration, 3.40 GPA; and, Eric Schulz, communication, 3.21 GPA;
On the women's team from Indiana State were:
Sophomore: Kacie Klem, psychology, 3.98 GPA; and, Sarah Snapp, dietetics, 3.56 GPA.
Juniors: Alicia Fritschi, athletic training, 3.60 GPA; Kelsey Hanley, safety management, 3.32 GPA; Allison Malone, history, 3.82 GPA; Amanda Paden, biology, 3.77 GPA; and, Adriane Wunderlich, physical education/exercise science, 3.85 GPA.
Seniors: Kylie Hutson, physical education/exercise science, 3.45 GPA; Lauren Martin, marketing, 3.32 GPA; Erica Moore, geology, 3.61 GPA; Violet Nwordu, school psychology Ed. S., 4.00 GPA; and, Annie Smith, liberal studies, 3.21 GPA.
The MVC Outdoor All-Conference team (awarded to athletes who finished in the top three at the championship) included nine athletes from the Sycamore men's team and 10 from the women's team. The Sycamore All-Conference team was led by Erica Moore who was named the MVC Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete of the 2010 MVC Outdoor Championship.
Named All-Conference from the ISU men's team were: Andrew Stull (second in 200 meters and second in 4x100 meter relay), Jeremiah Vaughan (second in 1500 meters), Michael Roberts (second in 110 meter hurdles and second in 4x100 meter relay), Michael Disher (3,000 meter steeplechase champion), Major Clay (high jump champion), Ernest Rollins (second in triple jump), Brandon Pounds (second in shot put), Patrick Mendenhall (second in 4x100 meter relay), and Justin Baxtron (second in 4x100 meter relay).
Named All-Conference from the ISU women's team were: Jasmyn Hudgins (third 100 meters and third in 4x100 meter relay), Erica Moore (400 meter hurdle champion, Heptathlon champion, and 4x400 meter relay champion), Chennelle Martin (high jump champion), Alicia Fritschi (second in pole vault), Lauren Martin (triple jump champion, second in long jump, third in 4x100 meter relay, and 4x400 meter relay champion), Kelsey Hanley (third in discus and third in hammer), Jaquelle Spencer (third in 4x100 meter relay), Violet Nwordu (third in 4x100 meter relay), Leeann Michl (4x400 meter relay champion), and Stacia Weatherford (4x400 meter champion).
