TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Indiana State junior Autumn Sowders won a pair of events at the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology Invitational on Friday, leading a contingent of Sycamores who competed well at the RHIT Sports and Recreation Center.
Sowders placed first in the women's weight throw with a throw of 48'-0” (14.63m) and came back to take the shot put with a heave of 39'-8” (12.09m). Two other members of the Indiana State women's team was also in completion, both running in the 3,000 meters with Andrea Prusz placing seventh in 12:00.06 and Katelyn Isbell finishing 11th with a time of 12:34.98.
A large contingent of Indiana State University athletes ran unattached in the men's division, accumulating four firsts. Eric Schulz captured the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:57.04 with Thomas Crum second in 9:04.09 while Sean Wright ran to a win in the 400 meters with a time of 49.62 with Anthony Bertoli second in 51.94. Patrick Mendenhall crossed the finish in 7.99 to win the 55 meter hurdles while Josh gambles had a jump of 21'-0.5” (6.41m).
Robert Webb had a busy night, finishing second in the high jump at 6'-4.75” (1.95m), placing third in the long jump at 19'-1.25” (5.82m), placing fourth in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.45, and anchoring the third place 4x400 meter relay team (3:39.33) which also included Dominique Downin, David Ertel and Corey Hahn.
Indiana State will be competing in the 15th annual Gene Edmonds Cup Saturday at Purdue University with the field events starting at 11 a.m. (ET).
