Indiana State Hosts First Of Three ISU Opens In Arena's North Gymnasium

Another Large Group Of Athletes Compete At Second ISU Open Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? The Indiana State University Sycamore track & field team hosted the second of three Open Indoor Track & Field meets in the north gymnasium of the ISU Arena on Wednesday with another large number of athletes competing.

 

The event is open to any interested athlete with a small registration fee. Indiana State students can sign up and compete for free. The final event will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, starting at 5:30 p.m. in the north gymnasium.

 

On the women's side, Shelby Higgingbottom, running unattached, won a pair of events for the second straight ISU Open as she went 17'-10.75” (5.45m) to win the long jump and pulled away in the final 50 meters to take the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.98.

 

Terre Haute North's Tapring Goatee was also a double winner, taking the 800 meters in 2:32.27 and then winning the mile run in 5:31.27. Taurie Whitton, running unattached, was second in both events, finishing the 800 meters in 2:36.38 and the mile in 5:33.37.

 

Indiana State's Rochanda Johnson won the 55 meter dash by an eyelash, crossing the line in 7.93 which was just a hundredth of a second ahead of Terre Haute North's Ashley Burkins who was second in 7.94. Sullivan's Kelsey Lane won the high jump with a jump of 4'-6” (1.37m), Brown County Track Club's Cassie Smith won the pole vault with a vault of 6'-11.75” (2.13m), and Morgan Ford, competing unattached, won her second ISU Open shot put event with a throw of 40'-11” (12.47m)

 

On the men's side, Duane Brown, running unattached, won a pair of events as he took the 55 meter hurdles in 7.97 and 55 meter dash in 6.84. Casey-Westfield's Jacob Ralph won the 400 meter dash in 56.60 with Terre Haute North's Kyle Bays winning the 800 meters in 2:15.91, and Brown County Track Club's Michael Dobson taking first in the mile run with a time of 5:08.33.

 

Jamal Hampton, competing unattached, won the high jump with a leap of 6'-7.5” (2.02m). Brown County Track Club's Rian Brady and teammate Brett Livvix each went 12'-0” (3.66m) in the pole vault with Brady earning first with fewer misses. Terre Haute South's Evan Myers had a jump of 20'-9” (6.32m) to win the long jump and Casey-Westfield's Patrick McCown had a throw of 44'-0.5” (13.42m) to win the shot put.
