ST. LOUIS, MO. ? Indiana State sophomore Michael Disher (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport HS) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
Disher led the Sycamores to a second place finish at the Evansville Mid-America Opener last Saturday, finishing fourth with a time of 18:14.97 for the 6K event. That is the best time so far this season in the Missouri Valley Conference.
“Disher was one of our runners who kept pace with the Louisville runners and challenged them throughout the event,” John McNichols, Indiana State men's cross country coach, said. “Louisville was an NCAA qualifier last year and should be ranked this year. Disher ran a great race.”
The Indiana State men's and women's cross country teams will be in action this Friday when they participate in the Bradley Invitational. It will be the first event for the women and the first event for most of the men's team. ISU took just five veteran runners to the Evansville meet.
