OMAHA, Neb. - The last time that the Indiana State University women's soccer team was in Omaha, Neb. they were competing against the University of Evansville for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The team returned to Morrison Stadium on Friday to take on the host Creighton University Bluejays, who came out with a tough 1-0 victory over the visiting Sycamores in front of 714 fans.
The Bluejays (8-2-1) pounded out a total of 26 shots on Friday night, but sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lahay and the Sycamore defense withstood the test for much of the game. Lahay finished the game with seven saves.
Indiana State (2-6-1) and Creighton played a scoreless first 45 minutes, with the Bluejays posting 12 shots with four on goal. Indiana State was able to take four shots in the first half, with two on goal.
Creighton broke the scoreless tie in the 67th minute, when Kelly Connolly took a shot from over 30 yards from the goal. The shot was too tall for Lahay and snuck just under the crossbar for the lone goal of the match. The goal was Connolly's second this season.
For the game Indiana State took five shots, with two on goal. Freshman Casey Allbright took two shots for the Sycamores, while sophomores Alison Gasparovich and Laura Terry both recorded a shot on goal. Senior Katlin Owens also took one shot during the match.
Indiana State will play one more game on this current road swing. The Sycamores will take on Missouri - Kansas City on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET before returning home for a non-conference match with Wright State on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
