TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The visiting Butler University Bulldogs controlled the pace and possession from the beginning of Sunday's matchup with the Indiana State University women's soccer team and never looked back, topping the host Sycamores by a score of 3-1 in front of 138 fans at Memorial Stadium.

Butler (3-4-0) took control early in Sunday's game, scoring in the 29th, 39th  and 45th minutes in the first half.  During the first 45 minutes, the Bulldogs totaled 14 shots, with seven on goal.

The Sycamores (1-5-1) would cut the Butler lead to one goal late in the first half, when after a free kick off the foot of sophomore Laura Terry, fellow sophomore Alison Gasparovich was able to control the ball and tally her second goal this season.

The Bulldogs responded quickly however, as they would score the final goal of the game just 39 seconds later, when a late corner kick from Angie Muir found Katie Griswold alone in front of the Indiana State goal.  The goal was Griswold's second of the game.

Indiana State was inches away from cutting the Butler lead to one goal again seven minutes into the second half, when freshman Casey Allbright crossed a ball into the penalty box, but the pass was just a few inches high for senior Erin Bianchi's head.

"If we could have come out with the energy we did in the second half in the first half, there may have been a different result today," said head coach Erika True.  "We have tried to focus on how we play in the five minutes after a goal and hopefully the team can learn from today's game."

For the game, the Sycamores were outshot by a final count of 23-7.  Indiana State was only able to muster one shot on goal for the game, Gasparovich's goal in the first half.

After taking a cleat to the face in Friday's match with Ohio, sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lahay was held out of the starting lineup on Sunday.  Fellow sophomore Taylor Nelson replaced her in goal for ISU and made seven saves.

The Sycamores will hit the road for their next three games, with two non-conference matchups sandwiched around the team's Missouri Valley Conference opener on the road at Creighton.  Indiana State will start its road trip on Thursday, when the team travels to Edwardsville, Ill. to take on SIUE.  Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
