LUCIE, Fla. - Indiana State sophomore Mackenzie Mack (Las
Vegas, Nev./Cimmarron-Memorial HS) has been invited to and will
compete this weekend in the 23rd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship to
be held at the PGA Golf Club on May 8-10.
The
prestigious three-round event will host both men's and women's teams from
around the country as well as individual players. The PGA invited all
participants for this year's event.
Mack
recently completed her third season with the ISU women's golf program under
head coach Mike Whitson.
Mack played in eight events over the course of the year, putting together an 84.5
stroke average in 18 rounds of play. Her best finish of the season came in a
tie for 19th place at the APSU In tercollegiate with a two-round score of 160.
“Mackenzie
has had a solid season for our golf program and we are looking forward to her competition
this weekend at the PGA Minority Golf Championship,” Whitson said. “This is a
first class event. The tournament will be run by the same committee that
oversees the PGA Championships. Mackenzie has enjoyed a solid season and we
hope that she can build off her play at last month's State Farm MVC
Championships.”
The
54-hole, stroke-play Championship will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men's
Division I and II, and NAIA Men's and Women's. In addition, there is an
Individual Invitational competition for minority Men and Women contestants. The
Individual Invitational is open to college students who are African-American,
Hispanic-American, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island
American.
