Breanne Smith Captures State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award

Women's Golf Honored For Its Academic Accomplishements

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's golf team was honored recently at the Old National Scholar-Athlete Banquet held inside the Hulman Memorial Student Union on campus.

Junior Mackenzie Mack headlined the award winners for the team as she was announced as a nominee for the prestigious Presidental Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award as voted upon by a panel of university and athletics administrators. Mack has been a two-time member of the National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Team. She also has been named a member of the Sycamore All-Academic Team and the Dean's List.

 "She is not only very bright, but articulate, approachable and friendly as well," Kimberly H. La Grange, Instructor and Coordinator for the Center of Student Professional Development said. "Her enthusiasm for the game was contagious, and her organizational skills and preparation were also evident as she led the sessions."

Mack was named to the 2009 Sycamore All-Academic Team for her 3.87 GPA in Marketing. The Sycamore All-Academic Team recognizes the student-athletes who demonstrate continued commitment t the essential balance between academics and athletic achievement. This 15 student-athletes who earned this honor obtained the highest cumulative grade point average on their respective teams with at least 62 earned hours.

Finally, the golf team had six team members named as 2009 Sycamore Scholar-Athletes. Those honored were Kayley Bodine, Abby Butler, Kelsea Ice, Mack, Diana Price and Breanne Smith. This honor is for those student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the playing field with a 3.0 term grade point average in each of the last two semesters. Additionally, Bodine and Smith earned All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team honors following last month's State Farm MVC Tournament in Panora, Iowa.

Last season the Sycamores led the nation with five student-athletes being named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Team.
