TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? The Indiana State Sycamores had the lead in each of the three sets played but could not hold on as the Evansville Purple Aces rallied to sweep the Sycamores 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-19) in Missouri Valley Conference action Friday in the ISU Arena.

The Sycamores, now 8-22 on the season and 2-15 in the Missouri Valley Conference, will close out their 2008 campaign on Saturday night when they host the Southern Illinois University Salukis. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Three seniors will be playing their final match of the Indiana State careers Saturday including Kristy Cox, Alisha Polite and Stephanie Meier. All three will be honored in pre-game ceremonies.

Junior setter Whitney Fromm recorded 28 set assists Friday night to move into 10th in the single season set assist list. She now has 1,059 set assists this season, moving past Lori Shafer-Bennett who had 1,033 during the 1995 season.

Three juniors paced the Sycamores in kills with Jodilynne Stoker recording eight, Sarah Agnich seven and Kristen Kerscher six. Senior Kristy Cox and freshman Shelbi Fouty had 15 digs each.

Indiana State dominated the first set and had a 20-15 advantage late but could not hold on. Evansville scored five straight points to knot the score at 20. The set was tied five more times, the last at 25-all, before the Purple Aces scored the final two points to come-from-behind and win 27-25.

In the second set, the Sycamores maintained the early advantage but Evansville used a 4-0 run to break away from a 13-all tie and take the lead for good at 17-13. Indiana State tried to come back but was not able to get any closer than three the rest of the way in dropping the second set 25-17.

After the break, Indiana State again came out strong, building a 12-9 advantage. Evansville responded with a 7-0 run that put ISU down 16-12 and the Sycamores could not recover, losing 25-19 in the third set.
