2008 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship FAQ's

With the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships quickly approaching on Monday, Nov. 24, many people want to find answers to several pertinent questions regarding the meet.

 

Located below is a list of frequently asked questions, complete with answers to those inquiries:

 

Q:  What is the cost of attending the race?

A:  Ticket prices for the 2008 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are: $5 adult, $5 student, children ages 2 & under free.

 

Q:  Are pets allowed at the course?

A:  Pets are not allowed at the course and should not be brought to the course on race day. 

 

Q:  Where can I find the most up-to-date information about the meet?

A:  NCAA.com is the official website for the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. Information on the championships can also be found on GoSycamores.com, the official website of Indiana State athletics. On the websites, you will find links to: Course Maps, Ticket Information, Parking, Lodging/Dining/Entertainment, Directions to Course, Meet Entrants and following the event, the official results of the meet.

 

Q:  What is the schedule of events on race day?

A:  The race will take place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.  All times are Eastern:

 

9:00 AM           Gates Open for Spectators

11:45 AM         Women Called to Start Line

12:08 PM         Women's Championship 6K Race

12:25 PM         Men Called to Start Line

12:48 PM         Men's Championship 10K Race

1:40 PM           Presentation of Women's Awards

Presentation of Men's Awards (To Follow Women's Awards)

 

Q:  Is the race going to be televised?

A:  For the second straight year, the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports.  For channel information, please contact your local cable or satellite provider to tune into the race.  In addition, the race will be live-streamed on the Internet at NCAA.com.

 

Q:  Where are some places to eat for teams and spectators visiting Terre Haute?

A:  The city of Terre Haute offers many dining options for both teams and spectators.  However, several have extended their hours over the championship weekend to accommodate teams, fans and patrons visiting the area.  They are:

Q:  Is there anywhere other than the course to go on a run in Terre Haute?

A:  Rea Park is just two blocks east of the Holiday Inn and many of the other team hotels (follow Davis Dr.).  It's a golf course and has space outside the course itself-all on grass.  Deming Park is also just three miles due east of the campus (follow Ohio Blvd.) ? lots of grassy areas, but some unsure footing.  Hawthorn Park is just north of the Rose-Hulman campus on the northeast edge of the city (take Wabash Ave. east).  It has trails and a hard surface bike trail nearby.  The Indiana State University outdoor track will also be made available for use on Saturday.  The track is located at the corner of 4th and Chestnut Street on the ISU campus.

 

Q:  Will there be pre and post-race press conferences?

A:  A pre-race press conference with selected coaches and student-athletes will be held at the Holiday Inn on Sunday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. A member of the Indiana State athletic media relations office will contact selected universities to participate in the pre-meet press conference.  A post-race press conference with the top three individuals and head coaches of the top two teams will be held following the conclusion of the respective races. Media members will not be allowed to access to the athletes during the 10-minute cooling off period. At the end of the period, members of the Indiana State athletic media relations staff will escort the interviewees to the media tent, near the race finish line. Copies of coach and student-athlete quotes will be available in the press room at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center following the completion of the press conferences.

 

Q: How do I obtain results following the completion of the races?

A:  Results will be posted on the Internet at NCAA.com following the completion of each race.  Results will also be made available on GoSycamores.com, the official website of Indiana State University Athletics.  For those at the meet, members of the media and coaching staffs may pick up results following each race. Coaches can ONLY obtain results with a valid coach credential located in their team packet and can obtain them in the results distribution tent located just past the end of the chute at the finish line.  Media members can obtain results with a display of their credentials at the results distribution center located in the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center work room.
