INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ? Senior Amanda Gogel put her Indiana State teammates on the scoreboard first in the 25th minute, but the Butler Bulldogs (10-8-0) rallied back with three unanswered goals to defeat the visiting Sycamores 3-1 in nonconference action at Varsity Field.
Freshman Alison Gasparovich tallied her first assist this season when she passed the ball forward into open field near the front of the 18-yard box anticipating her senior teammate's hustle. Gogel, known for her speed, beat Butler keeper Laura Baker to the ball and stepped left to get past her and roll it in from close range. It was Gogel's second goal this season and tenth of her career.
Unfortunately the Butler Bulldogs scored three goals in just over 27 minutes, first from Mandi Kotynski at 39:11 followed by Molly Kruger at 64:43 and finished off exactly two minutes later by Lindsey Fox.
Emily Lahay started in goal for the Sycamores making seven saves but also giving up three goals. Taylor Nelson relieved Lahay with about 16 minutes to go in the match. Lahay did not face a single shot.
The Sycamores drop to 3-12-0 overall and remain at 1-3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The team will look to redeem themselves on Sunday as they host Drake University in conference play on Senior Day.
Before Sunday's game, seniors Amanda Gogel, Libby Knight, and Alyssa Ramsey will be recognized for dedicating four years of athletic prowess to the Indiana State soccer program. Please come and show your support for the Sycamores as we honor the 2008 senior class!
Regular-season play will conclude on October 31, when the Sycamores play an 8:00 p.m. game at Missouri State.
