TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Last year, the Indiana State women's golf team recorded their first championship in the brief three year history of the sport at ISU. Next week, the Sycamores return to the Clarksville Country Club in Clarksville, Tenn., where Indiana State seeks to defend their title.
“We are looking forward to going back there to defend our title,” Mike Whitson, Indiana State women's golf coach said. “We are coming off a very competitive tournament and we had a very good week of practice. We are looking forward to next week, competing against another strong field.”
The tournament, hosted by Austin Peay State University, will be played on the 6,841 yard, par-72, Clarksville Country Club. A total of 17 teams and 10 individuals will be competing in the event which begins on Monday, Oct. 20, with 18 holes and concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 21, with another 18 holes of competition.
Sycamore Breanne Smith tied for 12th last year in a tournament shortened to one round by rain. Smith finished in a tie for 36th at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship last weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., and has had two top-ten finishes so far this season ? fifth at the Cardinal Invitational and tied for fourth at the Wolverine Invitational.
Kayley Bodine was the top player for Indiana State at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate last year when she tied for seventh. Bodine has had one top ten finish this season, with a tie for eighth at the Cardinal Classic.
Competing along with Indiana State and Austin Peay State University will be Akron, Arkansas State, Belmont, Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, IPFW, Lipscomb, Morehead State, Murray state, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and Western Kentucky.
