KNOXVILLE, TENN. ? The Indiana State Sycamores completed play in the Mercedes-Benz Women's Golf Championship on Sunday with junior Breanne Smith firing a one-over 73 and junior Kayley Bodine carding a four-over 76 to pace the Sycamore effort.
Smith finished in a tie for 36th after posting her second straight round of 73 and finishing the tournament with a 225 total. Smith recovered from a slow start on her first night to card three birdies and a bogey on her second nine.
Bodine also had her problems on her first nine, making the turn at four over, but recovered to play the second nine in even par to finish with her second best round of the tournament. Bodine finished with a 229 total which put her in a tie for 58th.
Sycamore Mackenzie Mack finished 93rd overall with a 257 total after a round of 87 on Sunday. Diana Price finished 94th with a 270 total and shot a 91 in her final round on Sunday. Rounding out the ISU effort was Kelsea Ice, who carded a 94 on Sunday and finished with a 271 total which placed her 95th.
Only seven players finished under par for the tournament, which was played at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Lauren Doughtie of North Carolina State won the individual title with a seven-under 209 total. Dori Carter of Mississippi and Cindy LaCrosse of Louisville finished tied for second at five-under (211 total). Megan McChrystal of Louisiana State and Kirby Dreher of Kent State tied for fourth at three-under (213 total).
Louisiana State won the team with an 865 total while North Carolina and North Carolina State tied for second, both carding 874 totals.
