Sycamores Defeat SEMO, Fall To Purdue At Edmonds Cup

SYCAMORES BRING HOME VICTORIES FROM BILLY HAYS INVITATIONAL

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ? The Indiana State University men's track and field team won three events and picked up two more regional qualifiers while the women's track and field team won five events and added another regional qualifier following action in the Billy Hays Invitational on the campus of Indiana University Friday.

Kurt Heimann won the 800 meters for the Sycamores win a regional qualifying time of 1:48.95. That time was also the second fastest in school history. Corey Dowden won the triple jump with a leap of 49-feet-11.20 inches. The other ISU victory came from the 4x400 meter relay team of Logan Edwards, Bryant Kent, Kurt Heimann and Sean Wright who won with a regional qualifying time of 3:09.60.

The Sycamores also got two regional qualifying efforts in the hammer throw. Jason Carruthers finished third with a toss of 197-feet-0.4 (59.11 meters) while Lyle Nolcox finished fourth with a toss of 186-feet-10 (56.05 meters).

Indiana State had a 2-3 finish in the 1500 meters as Scott Koressel was second (3:59.11) and John Lambertus third (4:01.61). The Sycamores had a 2-3-4 finish in the 3000 meters led by Justin Kunz in second (8:30.39). Scott Keeney finished third (8:30.69) while Jeremy Kunz was fourth (8:55.21).

Jordan Paladin was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (14.72) with Anthony Bertoli third in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 53.75. Eric Schulz placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:42.32)while Jeremy Gray earned a sixth place finish in the 100 meters (10.91), Logan Edwards sixth in the 400 meters (48.15), Bryant Kent seventh in the 400 meters (48.47), Brad Ada seventh in the 800 meters (1:53.01), and Sean Bowman fifth in the 1500 meter invitational (3:48.75).

The 4x100 meter relay team of Antinoice Surry, Jeramie Gray, Logan Edwards and Gary Ogburn finished second in 41.05. In the field events, Jake Conn finished fourth in the pole vault at 15-feet-10 (4.75 meters), Jason Carruthers second in the discus with a toss of 168-feet-3.6 (50.49 meters), and in the high jump, Curt Sunderland was second and Brandon Youngdale third, both passing 6-feet-8.4 (2.01 meters) but Sunderland getting second with fewer misses.

Jeanne Roberts, Dani Prince, Myra Bess, Erica Moore and Janae Bridges led the Indiana State women's track and field team with victories. Roberts won the 100 meters with a season best time of 11.85, Prince the 3000 meters with a time of 9:49.99, Bess the 100 meter hurdles in 14.65 and Moore the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.26, which was also a regional qualifying effort. Bridges won the long jump with a leap of 19-feet-9.6-inches (5.94 meters)

Leah Durr was second in the 1500 meters (4:46.12), Janae Bridges was third in the 200 meters (24.85), Heather Stembridge fifth in the 1500 meters (4:53.72), Bess fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.34), Kylie Hutson fourth in the pole vault at 12-feet-2 (3.65 meters), Lauren Martin third in the triple jump at 37-feet-1.6 (11.14 meters), Samantha McClendon fourth in the triple jump at 3-feet-5.2 (10.33 meters), Lisa Barrett third in the javelin at 129-feet-2.4 (38.76 meters) with Hutson fourth in the event with a throw of 126-feet-11.6 (38.09 meters), and Santia Spight third in the high jump at 5-feet-6.75 (1.67 meters).
