SYCAMORES RECORD FIVE TOP TEN FINISHES AT DRAKE RELAYS FRIDAY

JORDAN NAMED MEN?S MOST VALUABLE; SYCAMORE MEN SECOND, WOMEN THIRD AS MVC TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDE

DES MOINES, Iowa ? Indiana State's Paladin Jordan was named the MVC Most Valuable Men's Track and Field Athlete as the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Outdoor Championships came to a close on Sunday.

The Indiana State men's track and field team finished second in the team standings with 197.5 points. Northern Iowa won the team title with 229.5 points while Wichita State was a distant third with 163 points.

The Sycamore women had an exciting conclusion to the three-day event but did finish in third place with 112 points. Wichita State won their fourth straight team title with 185 points while Northern Iowa was second with 157.5 points.

“This was one of the most exciting and most competitive conference meets that I have seen,” said John Gartland, ISU's women's track and field coach.

Jordan was the MVC champion in the triple jump with a leap of 52-feet-2.5 (15.91 meters). He picked up two more all-conference honors by finishing second in the 110 meter hurdles (14.35) and second in the 400 meter hurdles (51.29).

The Sycamore women had two more conference champions crowned on Sunday. Erica Moore captured the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.98 while Kylie Hutson captured the pole vault title with a vault of 12-feet-5.5 (3.80 meters).

Myra Bess earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (14.10) while Jeanne Roberts was All-Conference in the 100 meters with a third place finish (11.51), Lauren Martin was third in the triple jump with a leap of 39-feet-9.75 (12.13 meters) to earn All-Conference honors and Dani Prince followed up her championship in the 10,000 meters with a third place finish in the 5,000 meters (17:39.68) which was also an All-Conference performance.

Sean Wright picked up a pair of All-Conference recognitions by finishing second in the 200 meters (21.28) and second in the 400 meters (46.23). Logan Edwards also earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish in the 200 meters (21.36). Jeramie Gray was edged by just .03 seconds in the 100 meters, finishing second and earning All-Conference honors with a time of 10.51.

Other All-Conference performances for the men included: Kurt Heimann third in the 800 meters (1:50.36); Corey Dowden second in the triple jump (51-feet-6.25); Justin Kunz second in the 5,000 meters (15:06.11); the 4x100 meter relay team of Antinoice Surry, Jeramie Gray, Logan Edwards and Gary Ogbrun was second (40.83); and the 4x400 relay team of Logan Edwards, Kurt Heimann, Bryant Kent and Sean Wright was third (3:12.36).

Others placing on Sunday were:

  • Jeanne Roberts, 5th in the 200 meters (24.46)
  • Amanda Jones, 6th in the 400 hurdles (1:02.76)
  • Laura Engle, 6th in the 1500 meters (4:42.38) and 7th in the 5,000 meters (18:07.95)
  • Diana Price, 6th in the pole vault (10-feet-6)
  • Carlton Hoyles, 7th in the 110 hurdles (14.86)
  • Logan Edwards, 7th in the 400 meters (47.73)
  • Antinoice Surry, 8th in the 100 meters (10.84)
  • Brad Ada, 6th in the 800 meters (1:53.65)
  • James Twitchell, 7th in the 400 hurdles (54.87)
  • Anthony Bertoli, 8th in the 400 hurdles (56.36)
  • Gary Ogburn, 7th in the 200 meters (21.79)
  • Jeremy Gillingham, 4th in the shot put (52-feet-3.25)
  • Steve Daniel, 5th in the triple jump (46-feet-5.5)
  • Kyle Walsh, 8th in the 1500 meters (3:59.80)
