MURRAY, Ky. - The Indiana State women's golf team stands in third place after the first day of Lady Racer Classic hosted by Murray State University.
“We took a step in the right direction today,” head coach Mike Whitson said. “We continue to be unable to practice outside, but we are competing hard. Our team needs to polish its game, because even though we are playing pretty well, but we are leaving a few shots out on the golf course that we need to have in order to compete for a championship.”
ISU is in third place with a team score of 328. They trail Central Arkansas by 12 stokes for first place and Tennessee Tech by nine strokes for second.
Leading the way for Indiana State is freshman Breanne Smith who carded an opening round 80 to currently stand in a tie for seventh place individually.
Mackenzie Mack is in a tie for 11th place with a round of 81, while Abby Butler is tied for 15th with an 83.
Kayley Bodine is tied for 21st place with a score of 84 while Aubrey Watt carded an opening round 98 to stand in 44th. Competing as an individual, Kelsea Ice shot an 88 and stands in a tie for 31st.
Indiana State currently stands two shots ahead of Butler, who is in fourth place with a score of 330. Host Murray State is fifth with a score of 334.
Play continues tomorrow, March 6 with the final round of action in the Lady Racer Classic.
