GULF SHORES, Ala. ? Sophomore Breanne Smith carded a season-best round of 74 during the first round of the UAB Beach Bash today (Nov. 5) at The Peninsula as the Indiana State women's golf team stands in ninth after the first day of play. The Peninsula is a par-72, 5,909 yard layout.
Smith opened play with a 38 on the front nine and followed that up with an even par 36 on the back nine for the two-over 74. She is in a tie for seventh place individually.
As a team, the Sycamores stand in ninth place as part of the 14-team field with an opening round score of 315. East Carolina leads the tournament after firing an opening round 291.
Sophomore Abby Butler is in a tie for 29th place after firing a 79. Sophomore Kayley Bodine's 80 was good enough to tie for 38th place while Kelsea Ice's 82 put her in a tie for 42nd. Freshman Jessica Borstrand fired an opening round 84 to stand in a tie for 54th place.
The Sycamores continue play in the UAB Beach Bash on Tuesday (Nov. 6) with the final round.
