ST. LOUIS ? One day after the Indiana State Sycamores won their first-ever golf tournament, sophomore Kayley Bodine (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) took home her first career Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors, as announced by the league office earlier today.
Bodine paced the Sycamores with a round of 77 on Monday at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate. She began play with a 40 on the front nine and followed it up with a 37 on the back as she finished in a tie for seventh place individually. The tournament was held at the par-71, 5,852-yard Clarksville Country Club and was scheduled to be a two-round affair until Tuesday's action was rained out.
The Sycamores earned the program's first-ever golf tournament victory with a team score of 312. ISU was knotted with Eastern Illinois at the top of the leaderboard, but the Sycamores won the tournament based on a tiebreaker which compared the score of each team's fifth-best player during the first round. Sophomore Abby Butler's 85 proved to be good enough to earn the Sycamores' first team win.
Indiana State returns to action on November 5-6 when they travel to Gulf Shores, Ala., for The Bash At The Beach.
