ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? Indiana State junior Lauren Podolski has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Soccer All-Centennial team, released by the conference office this week. The all-time leader in every offensive category at ISU is the only Sycamore on the list and holds the distinction as the only active player among those honored.
“Having been in the conference as an assistant and now as a head coach, I've been able to see most of the people on the list in action,” women's head coach Vernon Croft said of the honorees. “The fact that LP (Podolski) is the only active player, speaks volumes of what coaches and players think of her. I'm incredibly proud of her and it is another award and accolade that she fully deserves.”
Podolski was named the MVC Freshman of the Year in 2004 and has garnered first team all-conference honors in both 2004 and 2005. The native of Ontario, Canada broke or tied every offensive category at Indiana State this year with 23 points on seven goals and nine assists, totaling 21 goals, 17 assist for 59 points in her career.
“I'm grateful to get this kind of honor,” Podolski said of the accomplishment. “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and for their support.”
Podolski and the Sycamores will look for a win against Evansville this weekend in the first round of the MVC Championship Tournament. The match is scheduled to kick-off Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Black Beauty Field in Evansville, Indiana.
