Indiana State volleyball enters Sunday of WMU Tournament 2-0 with win over Green Bay

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Indiana State volleyball beat Green Bay in straight sets on Saturday (31-29, 25-17, 25-18) moving to 2-0 in the Western Michigan Tournament

As a team, Indiana State hit .229 while holding the Phoenix to only a .129 hitting percentage. Ava Robart led Indiana State with 12 kills as the only Sycamore in double figures. Ella Scott followed with eight and Curry Kendall with six. Hadley Hardersen (17 assists) and Avery Hales (15) spearheaded the offensive attack, while Emmy Sher (17 digs) and Lily Mueller (six blocks) anchored the defense.

Set 1 | Indiana State 31, Green Bay 29
Indiana State got down early 7-2 before a timeout was called by the Sycamores. Indiana State went on a run and surpassed the Phoenix to take a 15-12 lead from the hands of Curry Kendall. Green Bay caught up and gave the Sycamores a battle the rest of the set – once the score hit 15-13, the lead never grew more than two in either direction until Indiana State claimed the 31-29 victory after two Green Bay errors.

Set 2 | Indiana State 25, Green Bay 17
The second set was also tight the whole first half of the set with the Sycamores leading 15-14 and the lead never going beyond three points. Indiana State went on to close the set on a 10-3 run with five different Sycamores finding a way to score.

Set 3 | Indiana State 25, Green Bay 18
Set three opened just like the rest of the match, as neither team could string together more than two points in a row until Indiana State took a 10-10 tie up to 15-11 at the media timeout with kills by Ella Scott and Ava Robart and two aces by Avery Hales. The Sycamores never let the Phoenix within four after that, leading to the sweep and 2-0 start to the Western Michigan Tournament.
