KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Indiana State Volleyball concluded its first tournament under head coach
Ted Kopacz 2-1, following a loss to Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon, 3-0.
Indiana State hit .035 as a team on the day.
Kira Holland led the Sycamores with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. She was followed by
Ava Robart and
Curry Kendall each with six.
Avery Hales finished with 14 assists and
Hadley Hardersen with 13.
Lily Mueller added in three kills and three blocks.
Set 1 | Western Michigan 25, Indiana State 15
Sunday's opening set was back and forth the whole first half with only one lead change but four ties. WMU went into the media timeout with a 15-13 lead but came out and took five straight points, closing the set on a 10-2 run.
Set 2 | Western Michigan 25, Indiana State 20
Set two began the same as the first – the lead never grew past three points and there were nine ties before the break when WMU lead 15-12. The Sycamores battled late in the set –
Kira Holland recorded four kills in the back end of the set with
Ella Scott serving up an ace, but it was the Broncos who took three of the last four points to go up 2-0.
Set 3 | Western Michigan 25, Indiana State 20
WMU took an early 7-1 lead in the final set. Two Bronco errors and an ace by
Avery Hales brought Indiana State within three, 7-4 before WMU scored four of the next five points to hold a five-point, 10-5 lead. Only twice during the rest of the set did Indiana State get closer than five points – the lead was cut down to four – but WMU answered each comeback attempt by the Sycamores, which included
Ava Robart racking up three-straight Sycamore kills.

- Finishing the Western Michigan Tournament 2-1, it marked the first time the Sycamores went 2-1 or better in their season-opening tournament since the 2018 season.
- Ella Scott and Emmy Sher earned All-Tournament Team honors, Scott's fourth selection to a tournament team and Sher's first.
- Kira Holland notched her 21st double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Lily Mueller recorded 13 blocks in the tournament, finishing with three on Sunday.
- After the opening weekend, she sits third in the league in both total blocks and blocks per set (1.18).
