Sycamores in the MLB/MiLB – August Edition

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball continues to feature talent across the MLB and MiLB ranks as the month of August continues.
 
The Sycamores feature two pitching alums in the majors including Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Colin Rea and New York Mets starter Sean Manaea, while Luke Hayden, Luis Hernandez, and Carter Beck, have all recently earned promotions within their organizations to highlight the former Indiana State baseball players in the MLB and MiLB ranks.
 
Major League Baseball (MLB)
Colin Rea, RHP, Chicago Cubs
Colin Rea has continued to be a steady presence for the Chicago Cubs organization over the 2026 season with 19 starts over 25 appearances, while posting an 8-8 record and a 4.58 ERA. The eight-year MLB veteran has pitched 123.1 innings over the season and recorded a stretch of eight consecutive starts spanning June through August where he went at least 5.0 innings. He's posted a 91:43 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year.
 
Sean Manaea, LHP, New York Mets
Sean Manaea is a key factor in the New York Mets pitching rotation after taking a starting role on the mound in the middle of June. Over his three starts in August, he's posted a 2-0 record and a 3.26 ERA, while recording a season-high 11 strikeouts over a 7.0-inning three-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 9. Manaea has posted a 4-5 record on the season with a 4.22 ERA over 111.0 innings, while recording a 113:37 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
 
Minor League Baseball (MiLB)
Clay Dungan, INF, El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres Triple-A)
Clay Dungan retains his everyday role in the El Paso Chihuahuas lineup as the Sycamore veteran continues his seventh year of professional baseball. Dungan has lined up in 89 games to date with 61 hits and a .235 batting average, while adding 12 doubles and eight home runs. He's driven in 33 RBIs and scored 44 runs as a part of his output at the plate.
 
Matt Jachec, RHP, Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Guardians – Double A)
Matt Jachec has seen his 2026 season stall after getting placed on the 60-day injured list by the Akron RubberDucks on August 3. The former Sycamore right-hander has been one of the dominant arms for the Akron bullpen with a 2-0 record and a 2.01 ERA over 22 appearances, while adding a save. He's recorded 45 strikeouts over 31.1 innings pitched on the season.
 
Grant Magill, C, Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox – Double A)
Grant Magill has continued his production for the Birmingham Barons lineup after a midseason promotion from Winston-Salem. The former Sycamore catcher and Valley Defensive Player of the Year is hitting .259 overall for the season spanning the two clubs, while adding five home runs and 39 RBIs, while adding two stolen bases. He's added four doubles, a triple, and three home runs since arriving in Birmingham in mid-June.
 
Luke Hayden, RHP, Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds – Double A)
Luke Hayden was recently promoted to the Cincinnati Reds' Double-A organization, the Chattanooga Lookouts, on August 6, as the former Sycamore right-hander continues his climb in the professional ranks. Hayden has pitched across four levels of the organization to date this season and has started on the mound for the Lookouts twice since his arrival with the organization. Since the jump to Double A, Hayden has posted a 1-0 record and a 3.60 ERA while recording a 13:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 10.0 innings. For the year, Hayden has posted a 4-3 record and a 4.58 ERA over 15 appearances, including 11 starts, over 57.0 innings.
 
Dom Krupinski, INF, Knoxville Smokies (Chicago Cubs – Double A)
Dom Krupinski signed a professional contract with the Chicago Cubs organization following a standout collegiate career that included stops at both Indiana State and Miami (Ohio), before his professional journey began. The former infielder was promoted to the Cubs' Double-A organization on August 4 and has earned an everyday position on the field posting a .190 batting average over 12 games with eight hits, including a double, triple, and two home runs.

Luis Hernandez, C, Wichita Wind Surge (Minnesota Twins – Double A)
Luis Hernandez has seen his professional journey continue to grow over his second season in the Minnesota Twins organization with the former Sycamore catcher recently being promoted to the Wichita Wind Surge on August 12. Hernandez is hitting .173 from the plate over 110 at-bats with 19 hits, including a home run, and five RBIs.
 
Randal Diaz, INF, Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles - High A)
Randal Diaz has seen his output grow significantly following a midseason trade that placed him with the Frederick Keys. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native is hitting .288 from the plate since the trade, posting seven doubles and six home runs over 30 games, while adding 10 stolen bases and 25 RBIs. For the year, Diaz is hitting .266 overall with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, and 56 RBIs, while scoring 43 runs.
 
Carter Beck, OF, Rome Emperors (Atlanta Braves – High A)
Carter Beck made his mark on his first professional season as the former Sycamore outfielder has already earned his first promotion following a blistering start with the Augusta GreenJackets. Beck hit .409 from the plate with 18 hits, a double, a home run, five RBIs, and six stolen bases over 11 games, before earning a promotion to Rome on August 18. He connected on a pair of hits and an RBI in his Rome debut to open his time in High A.
 
Connor Fenlong, RHP, West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers – High A)
Connor Fenlong earned a promotion to the Detroit Tigers' High-A affiliate at the end of July following a standout first month with the organization. The former Sycamore right-hander has posted a 3-1 record and a 1.67 ERA over eight games, including six starts, while adding a save. Since his promotion on July 24, Fenlong has posted a 3-1 record and a 1.77 ERA over four starts, including his most recent outing on August 16 where he went 6.0 innings allowing just three hits while striking out six in claiming the win over Lansing.
 
Simon Gregersen, RHP, Visalia Rawhide (Arizona Diamondbacks – Single A)
Simon Gregersen has seen his 2026 season come to a halt following his placement on the 60-day injured list on July 24. The former Sycamore right-hander had made 12 appearances and four starts with a 2-2 record on the mound prior to his injury. He's posted 34 strikeouts over 32.0 innings on the mound.
 
Cole Gilley, RHP, Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies – Single A)
Cole Gilley continues to be dominant for the Clearwater Threshers organization as the former Sycamore right-hander has posted a 7-1 record on the mound with a 3.47 ERA over 59.2 innings. Recently, he's seen his role as a starting pitcher grow with four starts on the bump since July 26, posting a 2-0 record while allowing just a 2.00 ERA over 18.0 innings.
 
Jacob Pruitt, RHP, Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies – Single A)
Jacob Pruitt continues to impress for the Clearwater Threshers organization as the former Sycamore right-hander has handled a key role out of the bullpen for the organization. Pruitt has posted a 3-1 record over 35.2 innings and a 4.29 ERA. He's added 43 strikeouts while allowing opponents to his .238 from the plate. He also made his starting debut on the mound on August 15 going 2.0 innings against Fort Myers.
 
Jared Spencer, LHP, FCL Blue Jays (Toronto Blue Jays – Rookie Affilitate)
Jared Spencer was assigned to the Blue Jays 60-day injured list in the middle of March as he continues to work his way back from injury suffered in his final collegiate season.
